Im making this mod right, and I want it to have custom starspheres. Nothing too complex mind you- I made my own .tga and put it in the starsphere. Then exported to .CMP and exported a .MAT. (The starsphere was using the model from li05, I just changed the textures.)

Point is, it worked all fine in Hard CMP but not in game. I think its there, just not the textures working. I noticed other starspheres dont have .MATs so I think this is the problem, but I dont know how to fix it.

EDIT: Its almost as if the other starspheres have an invisible .MAT.

Models sometimes can also have embed material and texture libraries. It's a feature, you'll need UTF editor to work with library nodesets.

I downloaded a 'Freelancer UTF' editor. Is that the program? I dont know how to use though:$
