Well, my Merc Character is going to attempt to be totally neutral. I know I can do it, it'll just take a while. He hangs out with the Outcasts most of the time, so he'll use they're weaponry, and a ship that's widely available on the black market. Besides that, his larger ship is going to be a bit more difficult...

Now, I just need to decide.. Inferno or CD?... Hmmm...

I was looking at the definition between the two lately (No I don't have trouble sleeping before you ask it was to do with something else) and the info cards say:

Mercenary ID
Pilot carrying this ID is a mercenary that works for him/herself, unwilling to join the Bounty Hunters Guild or any other faction. Mercenary ID grants its owner right to fulfil lawful and unlawful bounty contracts, escort traders, hunt pirates and terrorists, participate in military operations. Mercenary ID owner is not allowed to pirate, openly join unlawful forces, or trade on regular basis.
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Gunboats, Cruisers, Battleships
Carrying unmounted IDs in your ship, as well as not equipping an ID, is a serious crime.

Bounty Hunter ID
Pilot carrying this ID has joined Bounty Hunters Guild. Bounty Hunter ID grants its owner right to fulfil bounty contracts, escort traders, hunt pirates and terrorists, participate in military operations on lawful side. Bounty Hunter ID owner cannot participate in any unlawful actions and trade on regular basis.
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Gunboats, Cruisers, Battleships
Carrying unmounted IDs in your ship, as well as not equipping an ID, is a serious crime.

So the sublte difference is BH are lawful - strictly so. Mercs are given more to the 'highest bidder' and the option to take lawful and unlawful contracts (I like the RP bit about 'openly joining unlawful forces' too - sneaky is OK hehe).

My opinion of a Merc conflicts with the ID.

Personally, I find a mercenary one who will use whatever he can get, and takes jobs wherever he can get them. Be that lawful, or unlawful. Anything for money. A mercenary doesn't care who the target is, as long as he gets paid.

BHG ships are BHG because its the BHG who use them. *Gasp*

A mercenary would use whatever is the best that he can get. For example, if a Merc found a Liberty Avenger with the keys in it, and he is currently just a little Stiletto, he would steal the thing. Its better than what he has now, and thats what Mercs work to get.

But in terms of this server, game, and the ID.

I'd say a Merc would use only Lawful ships, civilian ships. These include, but are NOT restricted to, BHG ships.

BHG should be using only BHG ships. If you want to be a bounty hunter with a non-BHG ship, be a Merc.
