sometimes all my guided weaponry just seems to take the day off or something. the 'guided' part anyway. I experience it quite often that my missles and cds simply don't lock on. I looked at it carefully, wether I am not the cause of it somehow. but it happens quite often. no flares launched, spinning reticle, within range, and still my projectiles zoom off to kill the nearest sun or whatever. they seem to be going everywhere except at the target. this is becoming a pain.
more than once I have seen traders cruise away from me on my Hacker whilst I shower them with cds, only to be left behind all alone crying like a little girl.
I have a LF fetish. so mines + cd is my favorite trick to blow up bombers. but when my cds don't hit the target, I'm boned. the whole tactic goes down the drain then.
when I have enemies jousting me with torps or missles, I can't blow em up in their face. another huge drawback.
I was told that re-seleting the target should fix this. I tried that on multiple occasions, no joy. it also happens when the server is quiet, so it isn't just lag. my connection is just fine.
so, am I doing something wrong? suggestions on how to remedy this?
Same thing used to happen to me back in my HF days, where my missles don't seek at all and just go straight forward. I always thought it was a glitch or bug and gave up missles.
I tried that. doesn't seem to always work. do you need to try it multiple times before it works? or should 1 time be enough? if that's the case, it doesn't fix it for me.

Other than that explaination I have no idea what your talking about.
it's not the turning rate. the missles/cd just fly all over the place except at the target. (in very sharp turns, mind you)

Remember, CD's are also missiles, just with a specialized payload. And as seen in the name, they do miss. Otherwise they would be called hitiles...
Now to improve your hitrate with missiles and CD's, you need to prime their seekerheads. It is not enough just to have the target selected. That will just give the missile/CD a "box" to shoot into, and then hopefully be able to track the target.
If you keep your targetting reticule OVER the target cross, then fire your missile/CD, you will have a better chance of hitting, since you are telling the seekerhead exactly where the target is.
Out of bats, Out of bots, Out of torps - Down to harsh language...

Wow, you have no idea how useful this information was to me.
I always thought that missles in FL are just "select your taget" then "point anywhere press a button to fire" payloads, because it seems to be the case in modern flight sims. As the missile has already locked onto a target (heat signature or whatever), when you prime and release it from your rack it'll just fly towards the pre-designated target regardless of where you point it? It misses when it failed to hit anything within a time window and either explode or fly until it runs out of fuel. But it usually explodes for safety reasons.
Ah what the hell, I should really stop applying real life physics and mechanics into FL.

That actually makes most missiles 100% surely hit. Not just CD's.
If you get a sidewinder with a good aim, it will track alot longer and even if it misses it will be a close miss.
