Actually, Kyte has a point.
I've been wanting to say something for a while on this topic, and I guess I'll say it now.
Dab touched on it.
Your creations are too "Spaceman Spiff."
Every single time I see something you make, it instantly reminds me of Spaceman Spiff and all the other old comic books it typifies.
Dab is correct.
You do use too many rounded objects, and your creations are a bit, well... fantastic. I'm not really sure.
Dude42 just posted some old stations he'd made... the first one on the left - now that is what an Interspace Commerce station should look like. Somehow he just captured the feel of Freelancer and upgraded it...
These... these are just too "Spaceman Spiff." They don't really make me think of Freelancer when I see them.
Or, maybe I just don't have a good judge of models.
I'm don't model. (Not that I can't... I don't.)
I assume that I might not be the best judge of what fits in Freelancer and what doesn't.
Get a material into MS3d, click the "none" button and find the texture you want to use. Select the group you want assigned to that texture, go to the materials tab and click "assign".
You'll need to create new groups for new textures.

I'd actually not advise using MS3D to texture if you have a superior alternative, the tools work but are rudimentary, and somewhat lacking in a few department.
I'm not sure if UVW coordinates are saved into the .x format though, so it may be your only option.
