I would like to suggest to make it potential new player as eeasy as possible to join, download and install freelancer mod.
My suggestions are:
putting up a "how to install and get connected" guide direct under the download link.
Why there?
This is the link every user will surely click in order to get the freelancer mod.
It is important that the guide is not in the forum and there is a link to it in the download section.
The guide should replace it completly and contain the links to the forum as additional information.
I recommand a kind of index how you could know from wikipedia, something like this:
(also with site internal links for quick navigation)
1. installation advice
2. installation on different operating systems
3. Download links
4. Useful Goodies
5. parameter for freelancer.exe
This is not a final conclusion only a suggestion.:)
Many of you knew surly better the needs of a new discovery freelancer.:)
In my opinion it is importent to say that their is a temporarily manual addition of the server ip needed!
The information are spread through the forum and only need to be picked up and to put in a good format.

And, one should be able to look at the "RP 24/7 announcements" and "RP 24/7 Tutorials and support" forums in order to find the manual IP. Of course, it wouldn't be needed if Igiss packaged up a new dsupdate.cfg and fired it into the update stream.
EDIT: Which, by the looks of it, has been done in the latest update.
