Seeing Jump holes are a "Natural Occurrence" in space & can not be controlled like a trade lane, I was thinking...
If it is possible, why not make it to where a jump hole will spit you out in some odd place now & then ( randomly, like a 2% chance)
Example would be..
Liberty Transport filled with items decides to use the Jump hole going to Texas. But today, the jump hole is seemingly not aligned correctly & it spits him out in Alpha.
Or a Outcast loaded with Cardamine enters the Tau37 Jump hole , an anomaly occurs & WHAM he's in Gamma
If Cannon is able to make jump holes randomly spit you out in other destinations with the likely hood being only 2% , it would not be a regular event, but enough to change things up & possibly make more opportunity for more role play.
It would certainly make life interesting and I'm all for anything that can do that. Maybe if a jump gate malfunctioned it could draw someone back into normal space and pull them off their intended course.
That would make for very very interesting game play. The poor soul who gets spit out the wrong place will be spending the next several minutes just trying to make it home. Give people a real sense of how dangerous space travel is!
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
Bacon, the reason this has never been implemented is that no one ever tried it. I figured out a way to make random jumpholes awhile ago, though lost my files when my HD crashed. Trying to get it working again.
However, this feature wouldn't be on most jumpholes. Jumpholes are much more stable than Ageira would have you think. Jumpholes were created by the Dom'ka Vaash (or however you spell it) for long-range transportation. Sometimes they get unstable and go down, or change destinations and locations, but it doesn't happen often.
There may be 'random' jumpholes in the far far future though (don't expect it in one of the upcoming versions, I'm too busy to spend much time getting this to work right now) where you enter it and it pops you out in a random place, 100% of the time. Theoretically you could enter a random JH in Eta and appear in Colorado. Pray it doesn't drop you off inside the planet.
The chance on normal JHs taking you somewhere random would be 0%.
This would be done in the mod files, not FLHook. With FLHook it can probably be made much easier. But again; We're already too busy to keep working on this currently.
Isn't there also a limit on the distance jump holes can go? I distinctly recall reading that about jumpgates, but I thought holes may have also been mentioned somewhere?

Been brought up before.
Dunno about making holes to random systems... Shame you lost that HD, Dab. Oh, and masternerdguy found a way to do it. Ask him. Although... I believe it was on the server, not the mod.
I know Cannon could move your character around the system as soon as you spawn from the normal hole, just not to a different system.
Jumpholes have unlimited range, as do Alien gates. Mod-wise the jumpgates and the jumpholes have unlimited range, but in lore, the jumpgates can only go so far. In making jumpgate paths, we modders keep to that lore. The jump from Stuttgart to Sigma-13 is about as far a jump as a human jumpgate can manage.
I should clarify, I did mean lore-wise. Obviously modders could hook them up wherever. Gate-wise, I think it's one of the dark mattery systems that mentions a number, but I don't recall offhand (I'll have to check it out again sometime).
Jumpholes are not limited that way though? Is it just perhaps that they're more likely to cover short distances rather than long distances?
In any case, I think there's too many potential issues with jumpholes going any which way. However, if they would occasionally transport you to an adjacent system other than the one you're headed to, I think that could be pretty interesting. Just a slight shift sort of thing.
