' Wrote:Says an attack occurs when the shields drop 50% ... black and white ... no debate. If the guy doesn't drop your shields below 50% before you dock it was NOT an attack. And since you were NOT attacked, you have no right to defend yourself until the shields drop below 50%.
Sorry ... but we gotta be consistent here.
We are being consistent. In THAT sentence, it says "AN attack..." It does not say "ALL attacks..."
Parse the sentence difference, and see how these two paragraphs read differently.
"All attacks must be the result of some form of role play. An attack is any hostile action that drains shields to less than 50%."
"All attacks must be the result of some form of role play. All attacks are hostile actions that drains shields to less than 50%."
Note the way the wording HAS to change due to the word choice. The current rule, 5.2, is set up as an assistant for us (the admins) to help when someone blithely sails up and SNAC's your shield without any RP. The use of the word 'an' is a deliberate choice, because it implies that there are additional defintions of 'attack' available for use. Did we think it was necessary to put out there an addition qualifier that an attack also could be something else? No - nor should it be necessary.
At this time, I'm calling this a pointless argument. Pipboy and Sead have done an excellent job of presenting examples. And guys - it's not like when I wrote the article on 5.2 that's pinned at the top of the rules sections, I didn't give examples or still leave it open for feedback if intelligent discussion was needed.
