' Wrote:Yeah, that's kind of a problem you come across every time you fly one of those ships. All the people see is what the infobox says. You can't RP it out that your Demotricus ain't a luxury yacht but some kind of coach (like the US Greyhounds) or your liner is more like a ferry then a real luxury liner.
Well, you could RP it (back in 4.84, I was going to get a prison liner RPed as a discount passenger ship), but it's still using a ship that wasn't made for the job. And it's still annoying to have to explain to people repeatedly, which is the main erason I scrapped the idea.
Honestly, I'd like both passenger pods (more for Trains than Transports/Large Transports) and more passenger ships.
How about this: if either the pods idea comes to be or if people-moving transports get a few extra ships in game, do we make it a server rule that trains/container transports/etc. freight haulers CANNOT load/transport people?
And vice-versa with the people-moving transports?
The rules I'm working on for the ((STA)) say pilots can only really use civilian freighters, and only haul people + food/water/lux. foods/wine for the trip. Check out my sig link if you want to read more about it.
I, for one, think it's way out of line RP-wise to haul people in the current transports... and if not for lack of options, there should be some sort of (minor) consequence for ignoring the RP and doing so.

No.

Yes, well, here's the great thing about RP: You don't get to define mine. Who's to say my Border Worlds Transport hasn't had some passenger space installed? Or that a Prison Liner hasn't had most of its passenger space completely gutted for other uses that require a reinforced hull?
We don't need even more restrictions on RP just because some people can't be bothered to consider alternate possibilities.
And if this is about the last "powertrader" you saw that you couldn't get to RP with you, do you really think such a rule change would "fix" that? If you seriously believe it'd magically make them RP, I've got a canal on Mars to sell you. And if you know it wouldn't, then what would it do? Satisfy your need for everything to perfectly match your vision of in-RP transport use?

It's a bit unfair of a response, and certainly missing the mark.
But your point about the "powertraders" not changing their ways is valid... but does that mean we shouldn't try anymore? Are we that cynical?

Cynical? It has nothing to do with cynicism this time.
I'm just sick of this attitude some people have that leaves them unwilling to even consider RP that's slightly different from their own.
I understand objecting to glaring inconsistencies, but I think it's safe to say none of us know just what the interior construction of these ships is like, and there's no reason to believe that it can't be changed at all.
(Sorry, this little off-topic diversion should be ending now.)
