I think that's definitely true, and although it may sound cheesy, maybe if we "talked" to NPCs and just kind of added In-Character "noise," it could improve that overall atmosphere. You know, it could be simple stuff- when you're about to leave a system through a jump gate, you could go through chat and be all cool-like talking to the NPCs in the gate.
"*Schzzz* This is Freelancer Alpha 14-1, gating to the Texas system."
In my opinion, I think that could make quite a more role-playish environment.
Frankly the best suggestion I've seen so far is the one that talks about putting the burden on faction leaders and forcing them to justify their existence. Many factions place PvP skills as mandatory for joining, but the only one which I know that would have a similar requirement for RPing is TAZ.
Its all very nice to talk about banning non-RPers and stopping PvP for a while, but frankly people learn by example. RP is not only a matter of talking, its a matter of talking to others. Factions are a huge part of this server and if people want to get into one they should have to demonstrate a continuous effort to RP.
So we've already seen the start of outward RPing, via factions as a whole having events (UOG Gold Run, [N] plague) but more so than that we should see the factions from within disciplining RP. Not just staging events but cultivating the characters that participate.
I for one am trying to encourage RepEx members to RP actively.
Maybe every faction should state that everyone has 7 days to write a lengthy RP story and character motivation and submit it. I myself need to do this in depth. It would be interesting to see people forced to use their imaginations instead of their muscle memory.
well imo the best suggestion is the faction leader thing personally if all faction leaders had a close connection to each other or "closer". If there was a problem lying in either ones faction it can be brought up immediatly and be told straight and civil without causing troubles. I for one would be happy to do it, it would make life for every one much easier and may help improve RP standards.
Yeah, interacting with folk like that is always good.
Hiring mercenaries, even when you don't really need them adds to roleplay too. It makes them more engaged, and makes you better too. Mercs often jump at any offer of a job, because of the RP value. I've had mercs work for Coalition Cookies (Food commodity) and others work for a measly 10 credits. The demand is so low that prices have plummeted!
In my trader, I find trade runs dull, so I gave up the Cam-Corfu run, and I now deliver food (and guns, sometimes) to Crete. The Corsairs are much friendlier than the House Militaries too, their players show gratitude for the much-needed deliveries.
