Walter Emmerich was born on Planet Erie in 789 A.S. He was young when he first set out into space, with barely any knowledge of the world beyond Eries atmosphere. Walter was unsure of how he was going to survive in the chaotic environment that is Sirius, but he knew one thing: he needed money. He acquired some cash off a kind stranger, and set off to California to get a Pelican. He figured that it was better to be able to fight off the pirates than to make any money. He was a very small-time trader, not making much money at all. Things were looking bad for Emmerich, so he took a gamble.
Emmerich flew to Manchester and bought a Bounty Hunter Bomber, offering services to lawfuls in Liberty afterwards. It still wasnt good business, but it was better than wandering Sirius with a ship that was incapable of any type of combat. The bomber served him well, but he still needed more. He was starting to become greedy, believing piracy to be the answer to his problems.
Walter Emmerich changed sides of the law in 800 A.S. It was far harder than he thought, forcing him to flee Liberty and seek the help of the Outcasts. He joined their ranks, earning himself a Sabre and a reputation as a very bad pilot. He had very few funds, so he could only afford light armor. Emmerich had some success in the ranks of the Outcasts nonetheless. Until, that is, the incident.
It was the night shift for guarding Malta. A mercenary showed up during his watch, sporting an Order ship with stolen Outcast technology. He was chased off to Ibiza, where Emmerich called for backup. Of the two other Outcast vessels in the area, neither came to his aid. They refused to help, so Emmerich, still young and na?ve, gave the Outcasts a severe scolding, though it was not his place to insult senior officers. It turned out to be a grave mistake.
//more to come soon.
They decided to teach him a lesson, opening fire on him and nearly killing him. He barely managed to crash-land his escape pod on Malta, though he ruined a good patch of Cardamine that was growing there. He waited several days recovering, and from that recovery sprang the call sign he would use for a long time afterwards. He presented his case to administrator Jameson, who requested a duel between Emmerich and the so-called traitor to determine who would be punished. Being the inexperienced pilot he was, Emmerich lost quickly.
Fearing punishment, and blinded by anger, he fled the Outcasts and took refuge on Freeport 9, where he worked on erasing all traces of his past. There was one thing, however, that he could not change. The cardamine addiction he had developed as an Outcast could not be erased. To this day, he wears a concealed respirator. He decided to turn over a new leaf, buying a Roc and flying to his home in Liberty to make amends.
He took jobs as a mercenary, choosing to work only for lawful forces. He worked with the Liberty Navy so much; he decided to make it official. Joining the ranks of the Navy as an Upholder pilot, he swore to never break the law again. However, his lack of skills put the attention of Navy officials on him, he was no good. His job was in danger, and he had no hope to save it.
It seemed like Emmerich would be forced from yet another job as he pleaded his case to the High Command. However, his arguments got through to the Admiralty, who decided they would give him one more chance. He was assigned to a Liberty Gunboat, to which he gave the call sign Recovery_Three. Finally, he had found a ship he was capable of using correctly. The High Command, impressed with his performance in the gunboat, dropped the case and gave him full command of the ship.
He flew this ship for years, growing older, more experienced. He was becoming more peaceful, wise, almost philosophical. Impressed with his progression, the HC assigned him command of a cruiser, though he has yet to take command. The Recovery_Three that had served him so well was reassigned to another captain, leaving Emmerich to fly a Defender until he could take command of the LNS-Heroic.
In his spare time, Emmerich has begun researching old documents and records of the Navys past. He saw uncensored, unedited records concerning the Order, he saw what they had done, he saw the Other Side. He has even contacted the Order, but the exact nature of those conversations remains unknown. Sometime, possibly in the near future, Walter Emmerich may have to choose between those he trusts and those who he oppresses.
Off the record, Emmerich had a personal life that hurt him so much he sometimes couldnt bear it. He had only loved one woman in his life, a Maltese woman named Luciana Sera. She was shunned by society after Emmerich had fled, forcing her from her home as punishment for being associated with him.
She was found dead in her freighter deep in the radiation fields of Omicron Beta.
However, the Outcast patrols that boarded the ship found something most curious, a child who was assumed to be the son of Walter Emmerich. He was brought back to Malta, where he was raised as the son of a traitor. It was difficult for him, but he never ceased to try his best to impress his superiors and prove his worth. His name is Marco Sera, the name inherited from his mother with her dying breath. He is an accomplished gunship pilot.
He has never met his father, though he has flown through Liberty several times. He is determined to avenge his mother by killing his father, who he sees as the reason the Maltese exiled her. Walter Emmerich has yet to hear of his lovers death, though he wonders every day about her fate.
