Well now I am a bit nervous after reading about the FLMM bug.
I have Mod Manager 1.3, and before ever getting on the discovery server, I played around with speed mod in the vanilla game because I was curious about how effective it was.
I found that running into asteroids at 3000kph was no fun at all, so I deactivated it.
Speed mod has never been activated on any version since I have been playing discovery.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Mod Manager in between using speed mod and playing discovery the first time. I did that before I knew anything about this issue, over a month ago.
If I am reading the posts correctly, I think I am safe, but I just don't want to risk getting banned because I misunderstand something.
Am I safe, or should I worry and do something else about this?

If you are worried about this, clean off and re-download the mod manager, and the mod versions. Before
activating any mod, delete the speed one from the program.
That should leave you with absolutely no problems. Speeding is usual very obvious in any version most of
the time.

I assume you mean obvious to the player who is using it, which makes perfect sense of course. Anyone watching has a pretty good chance of being able to tell the difference between cruising at 350 and at 3000.
The post that alerted me to this indicated to me (implicitly, not explicity) that the speed mod might be "activated" in the sense that the Discovery server would detect it, even if it was functionally turned off and not being used; something like a "ghost", or holdover that means nothing from a practical standpoint in the game, but enough of a presence that the cheat detection program would get a red flag about it.
I know for certain that speed mod is not functionally active on my computer, I thought maybe that wasn't enough to avoid having a problem.
In any case, I will delete it from the mod manager, and I already have a fresh install of the mod manager in between testing speed out initially and later using discovery.
I just wanted to be extra careful here especially since most of the technical computer knowledge is beyond my understanding.
