The constant PvP and training for it bores me to death, possibly the PvP is for you the basis of this game. Between my opinion and yours are hundreds of variants and all valid.
I like to go to any corner of Sirius (I do not like Guard Systems), explore, create new routes and interact with other people. In your case is almost the same, but limiting the territory and the best interaction is to have them in your sights. And thousands of variants.
Our RPing not differ too much, we like to have characters with charisma and life itself. But, there's always a but, I try to build the Red Cross (Crescent) and your a battle group. Here there are millions of variations.
I do not like faction, require a structure, bosses and other things completely unnecessary and you prefer a solid organization that give you support, help, fun and a clear and precise objective. Do not talk about the types of existing or potential organizations.
I want a character independent, autonomous and make friends and enemies, in your case, you already given the green-white-red.
And these are just a few differences ... someone once said: brings together three human beings and you will have six different opinions.

Seriously, the main reason that I haven't joined a faction is due to the sort of stuff currently happening.
I have ships that fly under certain banners, but they are Indy, which gives me a little leeway to do things MY way and not the way someone else says I should.
Of course, it's a given that I will listen to the powers that be of the factions (Corsair, LN) that my non-freelance ships belong to, but although I'll listen to them, if it cramps my style too much, I'll just ignore them and go about my business.
I like the fact that I can sort of nibble around the edges of things.
As far as I know, if I was to take my Corsair Cruiser into O-49 and fly over to Grand Canaria to drop off stuff, I don't *think* the Zoners would be too bothered.
I could be wrong of course, but I haven't had the need to go to the Zoner home base for a while.
Stay with your Zoner, but go 'indy' Zoner, you might end up with more freedom than you think.
