Before buying a cap, ask yourself if you really want one. A cap ship demands a lot of responsibility despite what you see on the server. What do you want to be? What is your goal? What's the crew like? Have a background for the captain? Don't see a cap as an ultimate weapon that will dig through the heavens. It's essentially a story in the making that should be used smartly. Sure you can kill things with it, but the real fun is explaining why it exists.
I'd suggest any lawful capital ship or the Zoner caps. They offer the most versatile stories and allow you a lot of access to Sirius' hot spots.

Why Zoner, exactly? You can't do a whole lot with them, as far as I can tell.
Zoner caps have a more diverse background. Any religion, any theology, and government. It's a cornucopia of random. Imagine owning your own little country in space.

Aye, zoner caps can be awesome at the Role Playing, a juggernought, your own FP. Not that everyone can have them now...

Hmmm, well, Caps die pretty easily in my opinion, except gunboats and cruisers if you know how to use them (which a gunboat really isn't a cap).
