My first advice would be to get the faction's writeup listed in the Other Factions and Groups subforum, along with a history of the faction that you make up inRP. Secondly, I would work on developing the RP backstory of your personal character. Third, I would spend a lot of time in-game, flying around. A personal presence is the best thing you can do to help a starting faction. After that, the best thing you can do is constantly update your faction's description, add new things to the history, keep up a presence in-game and make sure that whatever comes your way, you deal with it calmly and with a lot of forward planning.
Also, listen to a lot of power metal and drink Fanta.
