Okay I'm gonna get flamed for referring to the wiki again but that is part of the confusion

http://www.discoverygc.com/wiki/index.php/Shields

"Positron shields emit a field of anti-electrons, which quickly atomise an incoming bolt before it manages to damage the hull."

I know this is just RP fiction to underlay the science, but it needs to be clearer on this point.

Also the infocards are not explicit on this point either

It should spell out that the modifier only affects damage that is absorbed by the shield itself.

I think 99.99999% of people without brain damage, would work that out for themselves within 2 seconds.

I don't know if that's possible (or desirable), just saying torpedo shouldn't be the only reason.

An arming distance cannot be added to the SNAC - it functions like a gun which has been mounted on the torpedo slot. It does not have the characteristics of a true torpedo.

There was a sig here, once.

Every shield is like a blanket surrounding a ship. Certain guns can slice through the blanket faster than other guns, but eventually the blanket will be ripped apart and useless, and every gun will hit the ship directly.

What needs to be clearer? The shields stop the incoming bolt before it gets to the hull. Since it doesn't get to the hull, there's no hull damage.

I think it's pretty obvious that the modifier only affects shield damage. Why would it affect hull damage? The shield can't affect things if it's off/disabled...

Hardcoded into the game, and I'm fairly certain we can't change it. FLHook might be able to, but it's more trouble than it's worth. Not only would we have to code FLHook to do that, but we'd also have to rebalance every ship and weapon in the game.

Maybe. I always knew shields had to come down first, but also "knew" shields modified the damage. Trying to explain it to a newbie today and it was like... hmm.. mutually exclusive things here. Should have thought about it some more I suppose.

It would indeed require a massive rebalance to actually implement a damage-through-shields mechanism. Interesting to think about but not suggesting that at all.

Keep thread open to annoy veygaar please
