Captain Rachel Baker here. While certainly there are instances of law enforcement in Liberty overstepping their bounds and overreacting to certain situations I would hardly call this oppression. Simply an increase in tensions in a time of war. The social situation and the way the government deals with people in this House is far better than say, the way the Kusari or Rheinlanders, or even the Bretonians deal with their people.
Yes there are incidents that shouldn't occur, there always will be. There's not much to be said of that.
However, to say that the Navy oppresses people? That's clearly misguided. How can a Navy that has no interaction or purpose in planetary law enforcement matters possibly be accused of oppressing people? There are no Naval troops marching through the streets of Manhattan, or Los Angeles, and dragging people off in the night. The only area in which the Navy has anything at all to do with law enforcement, is in space.
And even then, we're only responsible for dealing with say Terrorists, or Pirates. We're also responsible for keeping illegal drugs and other contraband from crossing into our territory, though we share that duty with the Police. Any other law enforcement matters in Space are dealt with by the Police, unless they call for our assistance.
Back to my original point though, the Liberty Navy has absolutely no role in Planetary law enforcement, and so it seems to me, if anyone is to be accused of Oppression, it'd certainly make more sense to, you know, blame the Police. However, I'm fairly certain that they are not the jackbooted thugs every criminal claims they are. So please...before you transmit propaganda over an open channel, do be sure you, you know, have actually been planetside on any planet in House Liberty sometime within the past...y'know, couple of years. You'll find things are drastically different than what you, and every other criminal like you, tend to claim.
I will however concede to you this though, you may be on to something with what you say about the economy. Being poor in this House is not a particularly enjoyable experience. And corporations certainly do have a considerably large degree of power that I do not think they should have. This however, is the closest you'll bring me to agreeing with you.

Why is it that whenever I'm in New York, my comms are accosted with incessant jibberish?
I would certainly love to listen, chap, but I've really got to wire this donation to the Trade Minister.
He and his wife have fallen onto some hard times, and as a long standing friend I feel it's my duty to help them out in this time of need.
Maybe I'll treat him to a nice Munich cigar and a decanter of sherry while I'm at it.

The number of incidents of political oppression within Liberty is underreported by the corporate-controlled press. Big Media's revenue does not come merely from advertising - their corporate sponsors pay a great deal of money to censor the news and keep people from waking up to what is really going on. Thus, it is quite difficult for the common citizen, or indeed, the military officer, to learn the truth of what is going on.
Navy officers in the streets? Of course not, that's the army's job. And if you manage to get ahold of a news source that is not part of Big Media, you will see that such occurences have quite commonplace.
However, I do not blame the military for what is the fault of the politicians and the corporations. I recognize that many fine patriots within our military genuinely wish to do what they should be doing - protecting the citizens of Liberty. But there are also many who only joined the military for the free scholarship, as opposed to any sense of duty. There's a term for that. Mercenarism.
Now, our corporate masters can't have all of these patriots within our armed forces, can they? It would be a very serious problem for them if our proud patriots were to wake up to what is really going on.
Therefore they are going to try and kill off the many military patriots through wars and such. The way the Sirius Sector is going, you guys might receive some highly questionable, if not downright suicidal orders, within the near future. The sooner you wake up to what is really going on, the better.

Rachel laughs, almost hysterically so, into her com-monitor, pausing after a moment to speak.
The Army patrols our streets and oppresses people? I dunno about that! I lived on Planet Los Angeles, in the SLUMS for Eighteen years, yes the 'Well-Off' sector of the city was built above the 'Commoner' sector, but there were never any military troops in the streets. The only thing I saw occasionally was Security Forces agents arresting people, and that didn't happen often. I joined the Navy to serve my House, Defend it's People, and make a better life for myself. So far it's been a success on all accounts. House Liberty, is for most, a safe place. Living in the slums of course, you're less protected and certainly less cared for, but that's the same anywhere, But you're still safer there than in the Border Worlds.
I dunno what kind of drugs you've been taking, or what kind of lies you're trying to spread here, But it's not working...I think maybe you need to visit one of our planets and see for yourself. And for the record, Admiral Hale is not the type of person who would send his people needlessly to their deaths.

Mr. Sanguinetti and Mr. McIllheney speak great wisdom. You will not change the corruption that exists in Liberty. I would love to tell you it is possible, but I no longer believe it. I've spent most of my life here. I grew up on Planet Denver. I've seen what corporate greed has done to my home. It is that same greed that is now running the show. Ms. Baker, I have nothing against you personally and I respect your commitment to duty, but ever you have to question where your paycheck is really coming from. I resigned my commission for a reason. Anyway, all are welcome at Rochester who want to find a way to do business and make money and not be under the thumb of corporate oppression. I'm not going to join the group posting recruitment here, but all are still welcome to come and do business with us regardless of your affiliation.
