Seems pretty dead here and I'm not sure if any new systems are wanted. I've played Freelancer on and off for a while and after stumbling over Discovery started playing that on the local non-RP server. I've also mucked around with modding but not sure I ever did anything more than an amateur level. I sketched out an idea on paper though whether I can translate this to reality is another matter. Before wasting my time doing so I thought I'd suggest an idea and see if it gets flamed:)
From what I can tell of the Discovery storyline Bretonia's getting pounded pretty heavily and a bolthole would be useful. Liberty's laying into Rheinland and both are distracted. The Kusari assault was stopped by Bretonia but wiped out by Gallia. The Corsairs are trying to set themselves up as a house but are still playing pirate. Gallia has a fleet larger than the combined forces of the other houses, Kusari now a patsy of Gallia expended most of their forces against Bretonia who're now facing Gallia by themself with depleted forces. Much as I love Bretonia (well not their design style) I don't see how they can survive. I saw something sbout where the crown could retreat to if\when London falls. If I recall correctly Liberty was ruled out - disinterested party more concerned with wiping the floor with Rheinland. Poole was suggested, it's a guard system, but is too empty for a comeback. What's needed is an Alaska or better yet a Languedoc. If anyone's read David Weber's Crusade you'll have an idea of what I'm thinking systemwise.
Avalonian Background
Basic premise is an independant system loyal to HRH but politically distinct from Bretonia - Commonwealth rather than Empire, and accessed via a naturally unstable wormhole somewhere observed by the Cambridge Telescope. Three cultures, and the wormhole, impact on the systems history\culture\development - original colonists, Bretonian second wave taskforce and Corsairs fleeing the BAF, getting trapped by the unstable wormhole and assimilating into the new world.
Encountered System Factions
High Council - Controls most lawful bases
Guardians - Police\Navy faction responsible for patrols
Traders Guild - Trade convoys inasmuch as they exist
Orks - Equivalent to Xenos
System Design
Zones:
Red Zone - Toxic environment surrounding the star. Avoided by all bar Orks. Alien artifact orbiting star prevents zone contacting sun and setting off a supernova. Colloquially called Orkland.
Yellow Zone - Hostile Environment. Explosive gas and rich theoretical H-Fuel deposits. Primary battleground between Guardians and Orks
Green Zone - Outmost zone. Primarily asteroid based and containing High Council bases.
System Lights:
Twin stars. Unstable red, orbiting minor white
Bases:
The 4 High Council bases are laid out in a fork (Y) fashion with a populated planet between the two arms and connecting to Kingston the central point.
SouthGate Station: Primary defensive installation and wormhole research station. Based on a large asteroid with an archway leading up to the main facility which pumps energy into the unstable wormhole and acts as a defensive deterrence in conjunction with mines\weapon platforms.
Kingston Station: Central station. Trade point connecting all other stations\worlds and acting as last line of defence if SouthGate Station is overwhelmed.
Avalon: Heart of the Avalonian System. Primarily an agricultural\research world. Located between the arms of the fork but closer to the Port Station trade lane.
Westport Station: Station on the west fork of the trade lanes and bridging the green-yellow zone divide. Primarily an extraction\refining station though some ship construction.
Port Station: Station on the eastern fork of the trade lane more focused on manufacturing but expanding its ship construction capabilities.
The Cathederal: Guardian military reseach station located high above Avalon. Sells elite weapons\ships\IDs etc.
Nu ? Station: Ork Base deep in the red zone.
Okay there's plenty more that I can add but this gives you the basics to flame. If anyone thinks something in the idea has merit I can add to it so ...:rtfm:
Yeah you're not really going to find place for yet another system in Discovery, unless it's somehow incredibly amazing and relevant to the roleplay environment, which this is most certainly not.
It's not a bad idea, it just doesn't really fit in Disco.
