For my BAF character, Derek Kerr, I am considering on adding a transmission bar. For this I would need the use of an image, I have attempted to create one using such assets as Sims 3, and on occasion Eve. Although neither have shown up any good results.
While searching around I found an image on the daily mail page regarding a British officer. The image I think is perfect for my character although i am not sure whether it would be possible since i do not actually own the image.
Any thoughts or opinions which anyone has to solve this dilemma I would be grateful to hear them.

Officially, you'd need permission from both the person who took the photo (or institution) and the officer in the photo.
That said, a majority of the images you see used for characters and signatures are used without permission, so it's probably not a big deal (until someone gets into **** for it).
The general rule for something that doesn't have "copyright" plastered over it or anything is: I think, use it untill you get a no. If you don't get a no, they're effectively allowing you to go ahead.
You could find someone to draw something for you, like I drew Geordi in my signature... however I lack time for such projects with the amount of class work I am dealing with at the moment, but I am sure someone else can do something similar.
Problem when drawing, if your drawing a guy and you do the mouth wrong GAME OVER. your now a chick. I found that out from experience. *awkward silence*
Thanks for all the responses definitely helped me get a good insight on image copyright.
I think I'll stick with my current one for now, since I very much doubt the officer in question will sue me for it, here's hoping anyway.
In the near future, like kikatsu mentioned, I might ask around if anyone can do a drawing interpretation of it just to be sure, but for the fore-see able future I'm sure the current one will have too do.
And again thanks for all the responses you've been a great help.
