I think in order to make codes more special specialization is needed...if they are intended as "just" a class one level higher than 9 then the only thing we would need is cater to all aviable projectile speeds so everyone can get a nice speed match...and maybesome more differences in refire and damage...
But for superspecial weapons like the one i gave a few examples for you should face a tough choice if it is worth to give up a standard gun slot for something very specialized. Also those superspecial should drain enough energy that you cannot use them linked up to your standard guns like current codes. This might even lead to a weapon loadout for snubs like in shooters(ok, with limited slots..) where you could pick up a chainsaw, a shotgun, a rifle and a mg-each in its scifi spaceship version...each good for its purpose but no true allrounders.
This might lead to more tactical variety...or disaster;)

What i would love to see are Codenames that change the way the user has to fight!
Examples:
-A Code that has a superlow refire like 1.0 or 0.75 but a long range maybe 1000m and a high damage output and a big energy drain: a real sniper gun
-A code with a super low range, like 100-150m, and high refire and spray...add a nice effect to it and you get a "flamethrower"
there are surely more creative ways out there to shoot other people than 2.00, 600m/s and 2,5k dps;)
Edit: or how a bout a true chaingun with a warmup phase like used in some fp-shooters? this drawback could again be balanced with a high refire, spray and damage...

imo, there doesn't need to be much changed.
Maybe some different refire rates.
But keep in mind that if we have a 8.33 - 750ms Codename which seems to be better than say... Vegeance, why would we have vengeances?
I like it when people use faction weaponry over the codenames.
it gives a little ... more RP to the game than everybody using the same equipment.
Sure codes are used a lot now.
But you still see a lot of lvl9's and I don't want it to be even less.
Actually my idea would be making those superspecial guns so energy demanding that you cannot use 4 of them or even other guns while utilizing your secret special codegun.
I don't know who pulled out beam weapons...but as you said they are not realizable.
But of course you are right when it comes to faction weapons...they should be used way more often! One scenario i would like to see is that players mount their factions weapons+ one special weapon maybe? So let'S say each Sair has his set of Tizionas and Salamancas +1 weapon which defines his role or specializes him...

yeah, I know this.
I meant more a weapon which needs a charge time (+ visual charge effect) and which will shoot one time, with heavy damage. Something like a MR but for the weapon slots.
