Doc grinned at the thought of having the honors of kicking the Volkhan's butt but as he looked at the stapling device, the grin ran away like a child-in-trouble from it's angry parent. He shook his head as he studied it.
"A shame," he muttered, "that someone would require a device to instantly gain loyalty without making the slightest effort to earn it from his people." He then motioned the gun a bit, "this is proof that in the wrong hands, technology is a bad thing."
He continued looking at it, "this is what I wanted to do, using this thing but....." He sighed, "I must."
With the help of Doctor XiaoBei, he rolled Alvin up far enough to gain access to the back of his neck. Placing the stapler where the neck and skull meet, he fired. Gently, he then rolled Alvin back to his back. Disgusted, Doc then put the stapler down on a table, "Eris help me if this doesn't work."
He waited awhile to let their work do it's thing. Then he turned to Dr. XiaoBei, "Now we find out if this works."
Reaching over to the I.V. drip, he reduced the flow of trapanal that was keeping him comostose. He then looked at Alvin, "time to wake up, Premier."
As the two men waited, he handed XiaoBei a small, iron box. Upon opening it, he found two vials.
"I don't expect you to fully understand these, Doctor, but you will find them quite interesting to work with. Nanites are basically the biological cousin to the nanobot. I wanted to use these. They can be "trained" for several medical uses. I initially used them for Cardamine addiction with only limited success."
He then smirked, "they work well with Scrubbies too!" He then finished, "consider them a gift and while I have more, don't tell where you got them."
Knowing it would be a bit before Alvin started to come too, Doc produced a bottle of Coalition Vodka and two glasses. Pouring a glass for each, he handed one to XiaoBei. Raising his own, he toasted, "To Alvin."

Doc put his glass down and took a chair next to Alvin. He monitored his vital signs as he began to softly speak to him.
"Alvin," he began, "It's John Holliday." Alvin looked straight up for a moment. "You'll need a few minutes for your eyes to focus after being out for so long." Then, Alvin's head turned a little. Doc gave a soft smile.
"Don't push yourself, Old Friend. Your body needs more time to heal," Doc stated. He then turned.
"I have another friend of yours here with me. Dr. XiaoBei and myself worked together to bring you back. I'm sure he's got a few things he'd like to talk to you about."
Doc then motioned for XiaoBei to come over. "Chat with him while I scan him."
