Well, it indeed looks extremly weird when Valor gets stopped by an ice asteroid that's as big as a fighter's gun and is barely visible unless it's few meters away from you and you're in first person.

Tau 31 is a total nightmare for such heavy battleship.

But afaik it has something to do with hitboxes, and while it is possible to make asteroids non-static objects, it affects server lag too heavily.

Hmmm ... Big rocks stop big ships ... Big rocks stop big ships ... Big rocks stop big ships ... Big rocks stop big ships ... Big rocks stop big ships ...

I could swear this is something I already heard somewhere ...

Oh wait...

Imo, big rocks aren't THAT big of a problem, you see em far away and can evade.

Ultra-small static rocks - are.

Although, indeed, it became harder to navigate in asteroid fields for large vessels. Valor especially (although, it was bugged in 85)

This is what makes cruisers more appealing

No! Just stay out of rock fields. That is just common sense.

And why they happen to be only in systems where large capital battles in Omicrons are supposed to be fought? Why they are not in Texas or in Leeds near all gates and holes where capital ships are supposed to be? All of the asteroid bells are faaaar away from any of the house capital ship conflict/impact zones.

That is because the Large houses/Capitals are not trying to hide on edges of Sirius. Also lots of systems in House space has alot of rocks. Ever seen the Badlands? Also those systems were not "meant" to be fought in. Caps are "meant" to defend home worlds. Where I might add there are no rocks.

' Wrote:Guess it was already mentioned, that while the 4.85 hiboxes were, basically, the bubbles around capital ships, the new oneSo it's alright.

You guys really should have been around in 4.83, and 4.84 where anything, and everything stopped caps. Also we had no /stuck command. Kids these days. Back when i flew caps, we had to spend hours in rock fields, and get out and push. We did not even have space suits. We just held our breath.

Why not just have asteroids fly away from the BS as it goes through the field? I never actually looked at the code that was involved but I saw it in another mod a LONG time ago...would work for BS's but not fighters or anything of smaller sizes...

...or you could just not fly your ship into an asteroid field. Try going over it? I don't know, I hate flying anything larger than a Cruiser, so I don't know of a simple solution to your problem, sorry.

You fear oblivion. Yet you forget. The universe remembers every atom of your being. Even dust hums your name in the dark.

Well, I'm not sure if I'm 100% right, but heard it few times on forums. But it was certainly done in some mods.

To ryoken - well, there're big asteroids, medium sized asteroids, small asteroids. all those would, probably, prevent caps from entering the field.
But then there're very-very small asteroids (field in Hamburg around Frankfurt jumphole, field around T23 jumphole in kyushu), and ultra small asteroids (those liiiiiittle asteroids that you encounter in Tau 31 Ice Field). Those are real pain, sometimes.

Dynamic asteroids would fix this, but it's a fair amount of work and has... interesting aesthetics.

Logic says small, static, indestructible space rocks should not exist.

Logic also says the edge world parties should not really have ready access to the rather vast amount of resources required to build large warships such as dreadnoughts (however that's a subjective opinion)

If your going to build a massive structure like a jumpgate, your not going to do it in an asteroid field where it faces the constant threat of getting smashed by space rocks if you can avoid it.

Having said that, you pirates have battleships (its up to 3 factions now I think) and will most likely keep them. Until you can move around in your pirate dens freely in them and kill other pirates with battleships, you probably have a right to complain about it. If mechanics can't be fiddled with I suggest talking to a system dev to do some landscaping for you.

Logic also says a planet can't be 10k wide and 40k away from a sun which is only 15k wide.
Logic says Freelancer is stupid.
