Try Australian internet. Up until very recently that was the norm in many metropolitan areas.

And Sterlin is right. Unless you have an internet connection, you're penalised for just about everything now - including playing single player, offline games.

Uh. You only need to log into Steam ONCE to save the credentials.
Even if your net frequently drops out, that should not be an issue.
And yes, you are penalised for not having an internet connection.
Sure, it might suck for a minority, but for the majority of gamers it's not even something to think about.
Just as much as people who can't get a 360 or a PS3 can't buy games made for them.
EDIT: As for New Zealand, I've heard the Shire runs on Sheep-based internet, like some sort of hivemind.
