i pirate for run and in rp,not for money and when i meet freighter on level 53 or 56 and ask him for 1 mil,i ruin him.so better for me is ask for little money only and everything stay ok.trader is not killed and can continue trading and pirate has some money.
There's no limit. If someone asks for ridiculous amounts of cash, chances are they are terrorist-wannabes who just want to kill you.
In the Benitez, I have tried to encourage ethical piracy. That is, taxation that will not cripple traders. ie. we ask for 2 million per pass from a trader with 3000 cargo, and tax players with less than 3000 cargo hold only 1 million credits. There are exceptions (some commodities are encouraged, not taxed, and some commodities are confiscated).
The system described above allows me to tax and maintain a clear conscience.
Speaking of which, if a Benitez taxes a trader and he thinks it's an unfair ammount (non-rp), please contact me or post on our forums.
Pah! Lightweights. I look at it this way, on an average trade run (about 20 minutes) on a good trade route in an Advanced Train, you can expect to fetch upwards of 10 million. 10 million for 20 minutes work? I'm happy to pay 10 million to pirates if I have no chance of survival otherwise. If I think I might stand a chance to get away alive, I might barter the price down, but anything less than 5 million I'd pay without even thinking about it, I'd have that money back in ten minutes.
Pirates need to be aggressive with their demands. Don't be afraid to ask a lvl 75+ trader character for an outrageous amount, they're not supposed to be comfortable with it, they're supposed to be extorted! The important thing is to take into account their level. Having a Train doesn't necessarily mean they can afford 10 mil straight away.
P.S: I'll still run or avoid pirates like the plague, so don't think I'm an easy target :0P

What an odd point of view, you actually sound like a pirate who doesn't really have a trader character, trying to convince the traders to be happy with large sums:)
In any case, pirates who ask for too much end up creating more traders who don't pay up or RP, they just say "I'd rather suicide into this planet, byebye jackass".
In all things, moderation.

If you run, you get charged extra depending on how long you run or how much you piss me off. That's about it. I cap it at 5mil, which is about the point when it's obvious that they won't pay.
Why are you lot so lenient? I've just spelled out for you how much a regular trader makes in the space of twenty minutes, have some self respect, pirates!
Seriously, if you consider a demand over 3 mil to be lame on a character that makes that much in 5 minutes flat, you need to reconsider who's being the tight-ass. I had one trader run from me when I demanded 2 million. I chased him all over Kusari space for so long, he could've made 20 million in the mean time safe in the knowledge I wouldn't hassle him again. But instead he proceeded to run and hide and eventually log off just to stiff me.
Any charge over 2-3mil, if it isn't for a 24-hour pass or something similar, will just make the trader choose death. On most trade runs, especially now that things have been nerfed, more than that will make things nearly or completely unprofitable. So, ask for 5mil if you want, but you're not going to end up with very many takers.
BUT! Only if he is a trader for a clan and is tagged and has an ID. The higher the amount, the more chance of getting on their hit-list:)
If I spot say...for example, KNF :lol:They are fun to pirate....KNF, Advanced train, level 90 = 10+ mill depending on my mood. If they don't pay, its their problem.
The max I have ever taxed on a level 90 regular trader is 5 mill
My regular tax is 3 million. This is manly because pirating is my main source of income. I don't trade regularly, to boring and routs are crap these days. Pirating is much more fun and you can make a buck at the same time. It also depends on the traders attidude towards the situation as well. Here is what I mean:
------
My dad was pulled over by a cop about 3 years ago...he was caught speeding.
Cop: "Can you tell me why you where speeding sir?"
Dad: "Because I could."
Cop: "Wrong answer sir..."
Fine $350.00NZD
His fine if he wasn't a smart @$$: $80.00
Another time was when my dad was traveling down the motorway and he was pulled over by a different policeman, for insecure load on a trailer.
Cop: "Do you know why I pulled you over?"
Dad: "Nope..."
Cop: "Because of People like you, our department picks up tons of rubbish of this road every year"
Dad: "Wow! you must have a big trailer then! Make sure you secure it when your finished cleaning up after us, might cause a hazard you know."
Cop: **Pulls out his book**
I can't remember the fine for that one...But that cop as I remember was a little hitler, so it was probably significant. I still laugh about those days even now
If they are smart, BANG I hit them with the big guns, so to speak. And if they stop their engines and everything, and talk to me let me scan them....the tax drops significantly.
So be good traders, stop when asked and you will be alot better off.
Cheers
