There seems to be some confusion about the re-engagement rule about traders. A traders job is to get goods from point A to point B. They come across a pirate, they refuse to pay and decide to make a run for it. If that trader can keep himself, his ship and cargo safe and land on a planet then good for him.
If we say that traders have to log out of their chars for 4 hours every time they get chased by a pirate and they get away...That just doesn't make sense. If the trader is killed, then yes, they should change their trade route or play with a different char. But if they get away from you, good for them and bad for you. Keep trying.
A lot of you might bring up the "docking during PvP". Do you think it would be fair to tell all the traders on the server that they have to either pay up or get blown up? Makes no sense. Docking while fighting is a good rule and makes sense when your in a big fleet battle, fighter to fighter combat, etc. But as a trader...that's what he's supposed to do. The running of goods, and doing it safely, is a trader's number one goal. If he gets away then he's done his job well.
So, a trader does not have to log from his char if you're not successful at pirating him.
Another thing I'd like to address: In a fight, if a player is killed, respawns and comes near the fight just to 'watch' but starts supplying his friends with bots and bats..... Technically I'd consider that re-engaging. That char is 'dead' and could not give anything to anyone because he doesn't exist anymore. Trading bots and bats between those still alive is fine though.
why would someone trade bots n bats in a firefight?
it doesnt make any sense to me
but i agree with you completely on the trader thing
(feel free to delete this post if im not supposed to be posting here)
It happened to me yesterday. My trader char was launching from Dortmund station and an Outcast pirate:wacko:was waiting outside and opened fire before demanding a tax. So i redocked and called for help. I could not stay docked, because after a while you gonna be kicked out of the server. So undock the second, pirate was still there, dock again. The third time i decided, if he is still there and is blocking me from playing (have no other char atm) i would fight him. At this time i was unaware breaking a rule, because i had the possibility for repairs and refill bats and bots.
So i launched and started to fight him. Without help my Behemoth would been chanceless against a well equipped Blood Dragon Bomber.
Well, the answer wasn't been given, because my server connection broke.
This example is to show, how fast a rule might be broken in a stressed situation and my appologies therefore.
Thats never happened to me. But a Junker (i think cant remember) in a hacker GB pirated me right in front of Cally Minor...my question is that legal to pirate that close to a liberty base?
Vape, people trade B/B to keep their friends alive.
So, If I have been shooting you, perhaps the shiny battlestar next to you would hand you some bots from his ample supply, because he is better off with his fighter support than with 50 bots....or do they not do that in the =CR=?
edit....Piracy is illegal, now, by the rules, sure...just stupid. And if stupidity was illegal, everyone would be in prison.
thing that make me angry sometimes are when i ask for tax and trader is near base and he open fire to me.when i shoot back, then trader dock.i think this is the same as start crusie in battle or escape from battle because when he fire on me and i fre back we are in fight. or when trader dock.switch to another character with battlecruiser in other system and come directly trough half sirius to my position to kill me.
when a trader starts shooting, its a completely different situation. - shooting = fighting, no matter how great the chances aer to win. - but just running away and dock ... thats what he s supposed to do. - at least thats how i see it.
What I personally really don't like is smugglers that get stopped by police.. and when they do they make a run for it to the nearest police base (planet)......
I would even go as far as putting it into rules and making it punishable.... they should either turn around and run back... or dock with an unlawfull base (say a Junkers one).
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
Vape.. Why.. wouldnt it be legal for a pirate ship to pirate near one of his enemies bases.. Its not like he's gonna pirate his own people near his own bases is he now?

I'm not so sure there... I imagine smugglers have all sorts of sneaky bugger ways of getting around the cops on-planet. This would essentially kill smuggling. As soon as some random police IDed player scanned me, he's won. I can't sell on my destination. He wins by clicking 'scan'.
