How many people do you need, to pew pew and RP with?
New people dont understand what it was like back in the day when you had 6 people on the server and you had to search and search for any interaction with other players.

Yeah and 5 of them were in New York RPing together. Why do we need 200 systems then...
Discovery is not going to die anytime soon. People will stay here until an Update was made. If they already left before the Update they'll simply come back. They'll even come back without an Update.
Skyrim and others might be great. Call of Duty is a simple Shooter, where you are doing the same Things over and over, same counts for Battlefield. Skyrim is a Single Player Game, People want to play with other Players.
Every Game can be boring at Times, you take a Break and start playing them again later. There's no need to be pessimistic.
Are you not happy that there are about 20 free Slots at Peak Times? You don't have to wait anymore ;p
"Who is it doing this synthetic type of alpha beta psychedelic funkin'?"

These points exactly.
Also on a side note, I can assure you we did not just hang around in New York only.

Sure, but a couple years ago, the bare minimum was closer to 100, the peak was longer and typically hit the 200 limit for the most of it.
30 people is nothing special or even that many, certainly not compared to how it had been in the past.

With nearly two hundred systems? Quite a lot.

I... seriously doubt that. Unless there's something really interesting and compelling to draw them back, which the current mod version doesn't have and there's no telling if the new mod version will really have been worth the wait.

Ahahahahaha, bro. It's the exact same deal in Discovery. You shoot at a ship, you talk to a ship, you trade, you shoot rocks for 'mining'. Battlefield arguably has more ways to play it and more depth than Discovery does.

Not everyone who takes a break comes back, bro. Blind optimism is many times worse than pessimism.
I know the player count has been dropping, it can be felt.
The mining mod being changed was probably the cause of that. And nowadays there are way too many pirates and mercenaries. Saw 7 pirates yesterday on my way back on my route, being the lucky bastard I am they were all either busy or just barely missed me.
Will the release of 4.86 increase player count again?
Very sure about that. But if the updates don't come faster after that and if there aren't some changes in some things, the player count will drop again.
But heh, Freelancer is what...8 years old?
Anyway. Seems like everyone everywhere is pessimistic nowadays. They should call it the "pessimistic age", after the "modern age" and the "industrialization". Just gotta stop caring ... I hope the Carebears won't notice that ... and start looking for your own fun. Some might realize it's not to be found on Disco for them anymore. That's just how it is... *shrugs*
I'm still having lots of fun. No reason to stop here. Had my break, came back, will stay for now.
I personally think that a lot of systems need to be shut down for this mod to be more interesting.
Right now with a cap limit of 200 people and 100 some systems, we are looking at the populations that could average about 2/system. Unfortunately most of them like sitting in NY.
I would say make a 100 systems super hostile to population... with bombers and fighters galore so people think twice about using them to transit.
As the population move to inner systems for safety, more rp opportunities will be found.
Story...( massive super nova in the galia system forces the Frenchies to move in with their Fleet into 31.). The worm hole de-stabalises and closes behind them forever severing the ties to the galia systems. Since most of the massive armies are stuck in Tau 31 they start moving into other neighborhoods. for resources.)
Omicron Alpha is lost (to Royals) and so is Planet Harris (council) that becomes the new capital of Galia. 74 Becomes the New OC capital. Galia opens war on 3 fronts with massive success. End of this epoc would be Galia in *Half of Alpa/All of beta/All of 31"
OC in 74 as capital. Terraform one planet in 19 (in the cloud) with their resources.
I'd say close faction systems...there are just too many places for people to tun too...
WOW
Now as a player from a small Disco server (40 max) I feel it's not so much the game but the people, the new mod will indead increase interest, but it's the imagination of the players in a changable enviroment
that keeps people interested.
I myself am waiting patiently, using my imagination to come up with new things in the now, with the great
crew of players I hang out with.
It's upto the individual to get the most out of whats on offer.
So how goods your imagination guys, for I'm around for the long haul
