' Wrote:"Burning" engines aren't going to be that helpful in space. there's no sound in space, and also nothing to push against.
Carlos, I liked your post but this one sentance is flawed.
The US space shuttle uses burning engines, so why can't it be applied to Freelancer as well? What you are thinking of is engine exaust coming out and pushing against something (like air) to propel the ship forward.
This isn't quite true; when a particle shoots out of the engine, it pushes on the ship making it move. The action is the particle moving away from the ship, the reaction is the ship moving away from the particle.
That being said, its not a terribly efficient system because you have to use an enormous amount of energy to go as fast as Freelancer says you do... but hey, I don't want to take all day moving between TLs right?
' Wrote:I think I'll start a project to identify all the engine types and classify their fuel sources so we can all have fun with technical mumbo-jumbo in our RP and keep it consistent.
Actually eppy, I think I m Rdy has the fuel sources more or less spot on. Not only do those fuel sources fit what Costello wrote about the various engine types, each of those houses pay an apropiate amount for that fuel source.
For instance Bretonia and Rhienland are using mox in their mix, the only houses that posses this commodity.
"For instance Bretonia and Rhienland are using mox in their mix, the only houses that posses this commodity."
- but note there .... tripoli shipyard pays a lot for MOX:)aswell as H-fuel, cause they don t have both, but it appears that the corsair ships need it....
' Wrote:I have a (dull) theory about engine effects (partially sounds) and fuel usage, let me introduce it:
Rheinland (Green with smoke) - Plutonium-MOX mix, ratio 1:3
Liberty (Silver with rings) - H-fuel-MOX mix, 3:1
Bretonia (Blue) - MOX-H-fuel mix, 3:2
Kusari (Yellow fire) - Pure H-fuel
Civilian (Like Liberty, but different sound) - H-fuel-Deuterium mix, 4:1
Borderworld (Like Liberty, but with different sound) - H-fuel-Deuterium mix, 3:1 Order/Pirate/Corsair (Same sound as BW, but with red, bunsen burner like flame) - MOX-Deuterium mix, 4:3
Civilian Capital Ships (Yellow-blue) - MOX-H-fuel mix, 3:5
As I said, I m rdy has fuel pretty well figured out.
EDIT: Hmm I would change Liberty to H-fuel-Deuterium mix like Carlos suggested though....
' Wrote:I do read the info cards. Which is why I asked the question. I play RepEx and have seen first hand the RM be trigger happy as I often work directly with the RM. That is how they RP. The RP is supported as far as the info cards are concerned. I have no problems with the RM RP. I support the RM. I fight with the RM.
The info card does not make any mention of Liberty Forces being hostile or even unfriendly. Yet 2 different RM players killed the same Liberty Police character today within 5 minutes of each other in NB with no system chat or any cause. You do not feel that is a tad trigger happy? The RM got a hold of Hoodlum and the issue is resolved.
Just putting that out there to show that info cards are not the whole of the law. Liberty and Rheinland do not get along. Neither force is welcome in the others systems. *shrugs*
I am getting tied of people jumping on my ass for very plainly spoken posts I make. Maybe if folks have issues with them they could pm me to see were I am coming from instead of making the kind of uninformed posts I get accused of making.
Just to clarify things, Rick. I'm sorry I wasn't following this thread so I could clarify this earlier. There was no cause as far as you had knowledge off. Read the first post here:
I have to say it is also a tad tiring to play lawful when people have little to no regard to RP whatsoever. If I, as RM, say "stop" while within my jurisdiction, you either stop or face the consequences of your actions. I try, man, I try to bring back some RP sense even to the most ridiculous situations.
So, this guy shows up as LPI escorting traders. If that's not bad enough that he is of whatever police force randomly escorting traders, he is also an armed force from a house that happens to be in a very unfriendly (to say the least) standing with Rheinland at the moment. To top it all he not only questioned orders to leave, but he and his friends (the traders he was supposedly escorting) started something of a flame war with a RM admiral. Still we refrained from just shooting the guy on spot at that time and ordered him out.
So, after some time the same guy returns to Rheinland like nothing happened. Excuse me my limited patience, but I'll only go out of RP once for a person. That guy was not only knowingly in transgression of sovereign territory as far as my character is concerned, but also had a very recent record of disrespecting local authority. So yes, I shot him with very little RPing of it at that particular time, but I can assure you he got a lot of it when you weren't around. And to be completely honest with you, I didn't have to chase him around like that, I could've just blasted him with my first salvo, I decided to do so and to allow him to hit cruise to see if he'd wake up already to what he was doing, guess what, he didn't.
The other RM shot him for the very same reason, I was docked at the planet and AFK at the moment, so I couldn't tell him the guy was already dead. And, guess what again, even though the guy was already dead, he was still sitting outside New Berlin. I had to call Hood at that time to get things sorted out with these precise words: "Hood, sorry to bother you, but can you help me with something here? I don't want to shoot this guy yet another time." If that sounds trigger happy to you, well, what else can I say?
Things I have to put up with:
Bounty Hunter IDed Kusari Battlecruiser fooling around New Berlin with little to no regard to our orders.
Corsair Gunboat, IDed Corsair, IFF Corsair, but starts whinnying after we start shooting it on sight saying "I did stop for inspection as you ordered".
Traders fast docking avoiding inspection.
Bounty Hunter character defending GMG against RM inside New Berlin. (this one have been already sorted out, but is an excellent example).
Bretonia Police mining diamonds in Dresden.
Random house police/military flying about in Rheinland.
I could do this for days, and it's a bit relaxing, but what I'm trying to say is: If you happen to jump into New Berlin and see us doing strange things like shooting a trader or a police pilot, do not automatically jump to the conclusion that we are trigger happy.
Quote:DBoy, IMG and BMM are hostile too, but they dont shoot at each other...
rep cards for IMG and BMM both do not list each other as enemies either... IMG lists the BMM as an enemy, while BMM seems not to care.
IMG Card says that conflict with the bmm was cause for start of the bretonian vs kusari war, but the two forces are not currently at war themselves, just feirce competition that the IMG is willing to kill over it seems.
GMG and Rheinland are, as Dboy showed, currently enemies and hostile per both reputation cards. The correct thing here is to follow the rep cards, and all the enemies shoot each other rather than continuing to trade in enemy systems, on enemy homeworlds, and reply to orders to leave new berlin with "I am helping to stimulate the Rheinland economy."
They dont want to be Rheinlands enemy, then they picked the wrong faction. RM has stayed out of sigma 13 since before i even joined the faction. The reason i was told was "because of pacts with the GMG." That was before there was even a GMG faction. Nearly every pirate that attacks us comes out of that blasted sigma 13 jump hole, if we could go in there clear them out when we see them starting to gather, it would allow us quite a list of tactical scenarios. We however stick to the rep card rp, and stay out.
GMG has repeatedly came into our systems, hauling a bunch of stuff other than H fuel. Now i personally still try and talk them out of the systems. Katharina has no interest in shooting people with no intention to fight, but if they disobey law, and our past history with one another, then they get shot. Now i like the GMG players rping, i just dont like how they are doing it. They know the history, they just want to play around it. They are doing a good job of playing and staying in character, but its a plot hole that shooting them plugs.
Quote:Judging by Rheinland's engine color and the shape of their engine trails I'm willing to bet that they use something dirtier and heavier than H-Fuel to power their ships
that made me lol. That sounds like us XD.
Now the Liberty tensions are just that right now. Tensions that are being escalated by seemingly random LSF tagged ravenclaws getting into sensor range, then fleeing and attacking us when pursued. Not to mention every form of police tagged trader comes in and ignores us. Not the new peoples faults for not understanding at first, but roleplay wise we have to keep a lookout for whats coming from liberty. We are not shooting them for the sake of it, or even because of these tensions. They die when they disobey our orders. Nomad war may be over, but the wild are still running around, and liberty still wants the nomads compleatly out, other than whatever secret testing they are doing. Being Rheinland still has wild, and was one of the first major infestations, Liberty is very keen on getting us out of their space as well.

technically:
All ships are using H-Fuel. Deuterium is a kind of H-Fuel, along with the theoretical Tritium (heavy, heavy water). They need it for their Fusion engines. The colors are just to give the houseships a bit more style.
For the ignition of a fusion, a very small atomic explosion is needed. Therefore you have the Plutonium.
To create Plutonium you need Uranium oxid, called as MOX.
ALG is recycling poisoned trash to get MOX and they do cleansing the RM wrecks in Sigma 13, where they get the Plutonium from the old reactors, while BMM is mining the Uranium asteroids around LD 14.
Krueger is mining gas from planet Heidelberg and Samura is transporting H-Fuel from Osaka depot to Mainz depot, where Rep. Ship. is overtaking the freight.
Bretonia is the only colony, which should have a shortage of H-Fuel, because they got their deliveries from Kusari before the war.
Hope this is clear now.
I would consider GMG and Rheinland unfriendly, but not hostile, especially since Rheinland is more on the side of Kusari.
Thanks ALG, Rheinland is, along with Kusari the cleanest colony, so they never would use a dirtier mixture. Look for Leeds and you will know who would use the dirtiest mixture in sirius. Also take a look for New York and Texas and their large fields of scrap.
Somewhen ALG will be the ruling company, because of their progressive recycling technologies.
Yes, RM has never entered Sigma-13...which is interesting on two points.
-The New Berlin jump hole is in a somewhat "neutral area" considering that the system is divided between GMG, Junkers, and ALG. Currently, Junkers appear hostile to us, and since the jump hole is so close to the Junkers RM technically could enter the system through the Franfort hole or the New Berlin hole...They also have the ALG station near Frankfort also...
But on the other hand...
-If RM is claiming hostilities between them and GMG as a reason to avoid eachother's systems, then one could say that in RP terms RepEx should not be allowed into Sigma-13 either.
Granted, while RepEx has done nothing but show great friendliness toward us, and we already have our hands full with pirate trouble...they are allied with Rheinland, and if we were to follow RM's lead...we would immediately KOS all RepEx ships in Sigma-13.
I bet no-one likes that idea!
But it wasn't ours, I am only thinking by RM's guidelines...
Gas Miner's Guild.
We're a guild, that mines gas. Isn't that strange?
We supply Sirius with H-Fuel...like the Middle East supplies oil to the world.
So, put that in you pipe and smoke it...
