Oh, so, Police can stop you only if they already have evidence that you are smuggling?
Don't think so.
Not logical.
If a police tells you to stop, and they are 10k away. You have 2 options.
You can stop, if you are innocent.
You can run, if you are guilty.
Either way, Police will know what to do with ya.
If you start running, ofc they will suspect that you are guilty, and pursue you.
It is so in real world as well.
First, you stop the guy, and then search the vehicle.
Not the other way around.
Simply because, there is NOT enough people on the server, so they can be like a real Police, patrolling and so.
If they have like 5 people online, they are lucky.
And with that number, it is not easy to secure the whole system, again.
Especially if you chase a guy trough 5 systems only to scan him, because he refused to stop.
It's silly.
And, when are we going to have a first Disco Police Faction? I think that would be a very interesting thing to see.
But i guess all of ya lawfuls prefer Navy, because you have more options what to do.
Maybe i make a Patriot char, a Police officer:)

"more options"? - not really sure.... if there was a legitimate LPI in liberty - the LSF would be allmost obsolete, cause there is actually not much else to do than to stop smugglers. ( unless there ll be a war with rheinland, then the LSF can do special tasks )
but right now - LSF aswell as most other house "owning" factions ( BAF, KNF, RM ) are mostly doing police stuff - and not at all military stuff ( well, except for RM that was fighting the corsairs, which is really military stuff )
edit: ok - let me rephrase it - they DO have more options, but a real police faction wouldn t die to boredom, while a true LSF faction - or a true KNF, RM, BAF faction would mostly sit around twiddling their thumps. cause there is simply mostly just police stuff to do. but yes - in a way, they have more options ( cause there is no police around )
edit2: well, - i see it as a pirate aswell as a BHG ( allthough in BHG case, i understand why people never stop ) -- when you say "cut your engines" people simply NEVER stop. i think its either a major misunderstanding, and people think that "cut your engines" means - " oh, go on fly at your current speed " or maybe they think " oh, flying at 100 is allmost like standing still " i don t know - but people simply don t know what "cut your engines" really means. - so when a cop has you on his scanners ( 12 click ) and asks you to cut your engines ( provided he asks you politely and not like an ass ) - you d usually cut your engines. if you don t- i agree with chopper, you make yourself unnecessary suspicious ( in case you are innocent )
the scanner range is 3.9 clicks by the way - not 2 clicks.... anyway, i don t think that a smuggler should stay on the KoS list for an eternity. i had the same concerns about such a KoS list when i PMed about the keepers. they consider people with nomad gear hostile. - and my question was - how long will they still consider someone hostile, even if he has NO nomad gear anymore. - 1 day? 1 week? forever?
so take that as an ADVICE. if you go through the trouble to put someone on your KoS list ( which is perfectly fine ) - maybe you should consider to "unkos" him after - maybe a few days again. otherwise one incident can ruin the RP of one char. that is not about how things are in RL - that is about gameplay. you can renew the kos duration if the smuggler is caught within this time with contraband again. and i guess you could engage him even if he carries no contraband. but after that while - you should consider him CLEAN again, even if the player behind the character knows that he is a smuggler.
Your idea is interesting, Jinx. It's up to the faction to come up with this, but I know from experience that a police/military faction's KoS list can get populated REAL quick. Also, they tend to get mostly one timers, people you usually don't see around more than a week. Again, it's an idea to consider, but it's really dependant on each case.

Me and bus are sort of starting an unofficial LPI squadron. We're still trying to give more damn about it...If you want the three of us to try giving a damn together, feel free to PM any of us:)
well, what will actually happen when police factions appear? - i mean, its often said that police forces shouldn t really use capships for example ( for a good reason ) - but they do the scanning of traders and fight off minor criminals.
LSF and Navy ( RM, BAF, KNF ) are only called if there is a MAJOR threat incoming for the country. - so in ... will the military factions suddenly be unemployed? - cause they cannot really justify doing the minor duties of the house when - roleplaywise - their job is to protect the house space from only invasions or stuff the police cannot deal with.
even worse for a faction like LSF, which is more a swat or a team for very special and rare occasions. so - as long as there is only occasional smugglers and a few pirates in their little fighters - the militaries would rather enjoy a drink on their homeplanets.
anyone ever thought about that? - especially regarding factions like the RM, who currently practicly govern the rheinland space - what if there appears an official rheinland police faction?
Jinx - LPI will not exactly attack or chase Hackers/Rogues/Xenos/Outcasts out of the system.
They will do the patrolling, yes, without capital ships, and without even gunboats, chasing off criminals from the planets etc.
LSF and SA all round up, together, and then they go to kick Pirates butts. Usually.
LPI should not act, attack, patrol together. Ofc, if officer is in danger, the rest will come to aid.
But it will be only Patrolling, Scanning for contraband, RP-Arresting etc.
Fighting with criminal fleet isn't exactly what police can take care off.
And i will remind you that almost all Criminals do have a fleet.
So, it can easily be appointed to the LSF, they act as special forces anyway.
Police should not go away from Trade lanes, and populated places.
Mainly Planets, Jump Gates (this will actually make smugglers use jump holes instead, as they should, we will not be securing those), Stations etc.
Every officer would have his own jurisdiction, for patrolling and scanning.
It can start in New York only, and expands if needed.
But, as i said, i have my own vision of it.
If anyone wants to act as a Police, and fly a Gunboat, i'm all against it.
And will not go in that one.
All should have the same ship! And i mean it!
1 and 1 only ship, for all officers.
If they start going "Oh, i like claw better, i'l take it", or "Oh, i'l just take one of these Liberty Carriers, it's easier to play with 1 hand", then it's stupid.
But if done properly, it can work.
I think it could work, without making too many problems to the LSF and SA.

It was Etaphreven who suggested that we could make a small LPI squadron to patrol the Liberty space. We only plan to fly Patriots or Liberators (prison ships were also mentioned but that would probably get too boring) so if anybody else is interested, PM to me or Etaphreven. In case there are any more people we will probably set up a new thread in the factions forum and discuss the details there.
I don't think that LSF will lose their job though. So far it's only the two of us (and we haven't actually created the accounts yet) plus we won't be able to engage any of the stronger players anyway beacause of the ship restriction. The good thing is that we will easily stay below* level 30 so if there's any underage -- I mean, under level 30 -- player who doesn't behave then guess what:yahoo:.
* Ok, I'm not sure about the Liberator but definitely with Patriot.
I don't care even if it's avenger, as long as all of us fly the same ship.
On the other note, i don't care even if it's a Startracker.
It's not the PVP aspect of the LPI that attracts me.
Patriots would be nice, Liberator as well.
I will contact you via pm today or tomorrow, i'm kinda busy right now:)
