Some not all; these days Cargo ships that pass through the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and off the coast of West African either have mercenaries on board with big guns, or Naval escorts; but I see your point and I'€™ve just shot myself in the foot, we'€™re back to having more escorts and convoys now!

Gunboats don't need it. Therefor they can cram extra armour and energy cells into it to do thier job more effectively. Its a gunboat, it shouldn't need to transit anything so every little space can be crammed with hardware.

Forgive my ignoreance, but exactly how big is a Gunboat compared to a Stork, or a Shire or a Mamoth (i.e. Large Transports)?

Yes they have small cargo holds, yes I see your point, they have more room for bigger power cores, batteries etc.

But (and I think you'€™ve already said this) If we can fit CAU8 to a transport to '€œprotect it'€ why can'€™t we fit '€œHigh capacity Power core'€ so supe'€™ up the weapons? The Democritus or whatever it'€™s called, can mount a GB gun, so why can'€™t a Large Transport at the expense of 500 cargo units?

the difference between real life and this game is, and yes, this arguement doesnt support arming transports
but ill say it anway. in life, u see on the news about cargo ships gettin jacked by pirates WHY? cus ppl on cargo ships dont carry guns, they dont have cannons, they dont have missles. in reality transport ships are practically helpless. the fact that we in disco have guns at all is amazing, and due only to the fact that space is hella more dangerous than the atlantic. i kno, u might thing im contradicting myself, but i didnt outright say i support better guns, just that it would be nice ^_^

By thoughness and strength I was compareing it as a military vehicle.
Military trucks will have, at most, a 50. cal MG on the roof and light armour. Compaired to a light assault vehicle.

Its not going to be able to take as much fire as a light assault vehicle.
It won't be able to put down as much fire as a light assault vehicle.
It won't be as fast as a light assault vehicle.
It won't handle as well as a light assault vehicle.

And if a Gunboat is compariable to a light IFV then they will be either more seperated from the Truck.

RL pirates are imprisoned or worse. They certainly don't respawn with their ship and guns. Also RL piracy is a miniscule percentage of all trade traffic. There's zero piracy on the heavily-used lanes in the North Atlantic, for example. If disco was anything like RL, the houses simply would not allow pirate forces to develop any strength at all, and unlawfuls could only operate in very small groups or at the very edges of space on a very low-budget level (Somalians in Space basically).

It's a game, supposed to be fun not realistic. I play to get away from reality not to relive it. But in this case the metaphor that RL piracy exists doesn't even match up to the game, it's much much worse in the game, as it should be.

oh i agree, but only because space is so god darned huge. i also agree i dont play for realism, ill pop in battlefield for that. but everything we make has a basis in reality. i also agree with jim, u could fir the entire lib gb inside a shire, why not give them something usefull other than armor that takes up space.

and ash, u do have a good point and im sry i missed it. that mg would tear apart a semi while the semi could do nothing back. i suppose if u were to compare it, a 5k transport is like a double trailer semi with 50 cals placed all over it. that would be a sight to see

I play i trader for the morepart of my gamingtime. I never do the pirate thingy. I'm one of the good guys so i only play lawfuls

Anyways...
I don't think the freighters, tankers need that much more buffing of the armor or weapons.. well maybe weapons..
what i do think tho is that the pirates actually rp. not just the usual 2milordai bull****. THAT is really annoying. When you try to rp with these guys they go pewpew almost straight away. I think its quite fun to be pirated by someone who actually knows how to rp. I can happily pay the so called fine and yes i sometimes set bountyhunters or military on their asses for the fun of it.. it's all good sport and I usually continue discussing with the pirate in private chat after the deed is done (so to say). Heck sometims i've even told military or police to go away just becaus we're having a fun conversation..

The best way to get more people to do the tradethingy is not to increase the profits of each run or give the ships more armor, shields or more powerful weapons. No. It's to roleplay. Stop the 2milordai bull**** and start acting as it is supposed to be on this server. It is a roleplay server and hence it should be more of roleplay then it is now. I know that the 2milordai is quick money for the pirate because he/she shortens the time it takes to get the money without being caught. But that is a risk the pirate should be ready to take.

So please feel free to pirate but try to actually roleplay with the intended victim and let the trader plead his case and haggle over the price. Many of us are actually employed by a company and it is the company that make the profit not the trader. we get our pay through the monthly salary...rpwise that is... The pirates could also demand more cargo from the trader then now. I cant remember when i got pirated for cargo anymore. well.. the npc's do it from time to time but...

Also i belive that a good addition would be for traders to actually travel in convoys. Try to bring more traders into an official faction such as DSE, IC AGEIRA or something like that. It's not only fun to have someone to chat with during flight but it is also a good defence against most pirates. Imagine 4-5 bigass ships with bigass guns firing away at the pirate..

Anyways thats just my 2 cents on the issue
cheers and toodeloo..

Do more exotic routes (aka trade-a-lot-with-gallia).

Or trade with goods you never traded with before, this ads discovery even to trading.

I have no boredom when it comes to routes, I frequently try new places of trade, or take high risk cargo from place to place, adding to the tension of being caught and making the game more exciting.

I said we needed more weapon variety. Once again, we hardly have any weapons. It would be nice to be able to customize our hulking behemoths that we call transports, with more interesting weaponry.

Edit: I don't necessarily mean buff all weapons, what I mean is a large variety of different types of weapons. And like someone suggested, perhaps let use carry one class higher or something to that effect.

Same reason why people don't mount an armor upgrade for expense of 20 million credits and 20 cargo space.

Money.

Can't argue with that :mellow:It is a game and like some other people on here have already suggested, pirates should RP more, we (traders) should travel in convoy more and have more escorts etc.

BUT

I'd still like a GB gun on top of my Shire! ;)
