Hello guys, today I was working on a weapon setup for the bretonia destroyer in single player. I was watching the ship for few minutes and was questioning myself: "What is the reason of this giant weapon slot on the tail and these 2 spots on the weapon platform?" and "What is the reason of the bretonian destroyer's strange shape?"
So I decided to open Ioncross and change these 3 (right now Heavy slots) with Battleship Tertiary Cannons and...I was enlightened with all the answers I needed:
-"What is the reason of this giant weapon slot on the tail and these 2 spots on the weapon platform?"
They are suitable for battleship primary turrets in order to increase the firepower of the "Destroyer".
-"What is the reason of the bretonian destroyer's strange shape?"
The reason was to create a ship which right now is known in discovery as "battlecruiser" but to be super light. These super light battlecruisers or in short bretonian destroyers were build with the same size, armor, weapons and energy pools like the other sirius cruisers but with the possibility to mount 3 battleship turrets for Maximum firepower and advantage.
The original bretonian destroyer was met to be support unit for the bretonian battleship. That is why the bretonian battleship is a combo breaker. Instead to be a heavy capital ship, they made it medium because the bretonian destroyer had enough firepower to damage enemy capital ships and was far more cheaper to be build. That is why the bretonian fleet dont have a cruiser, instead they have something what others dont possess.
Bretonia Destroyer have no forward gun to make it super effective against battleships but instead it have 3 battleship primary turrets slots.
Here are some screens which proves my theory to be truth:
-Battleship Turret 1 - Forward firing only turret
-Battleship Turret 2 - forward/backward/above firing turret
-Battleship Turret 3 - forward/backward/below firing turret
Example for such super light battlecruisers are the vanila Liberty Siege Cruisers. They are using it as a cruiser able to mount a giant forward gun for anti capital ship duty. These cruisers proved to be super effective against any battleships in Sirius that is why Liberty choose to build medium, small and quick battleships instead of Heavy. Bretonia did the same.
My questions to the devs are: Is it possible that to happen? Can Bretonia have its destroyer restored to its real purpose of existence since Liberty have their official vanila ship with its official vanila forward gun?
Obviously the only thing the devs will be concerned about is if it is balanced or not, or if it's even suitable, it would probably make it very strong against other destroyers and battlecruisers, but not really help that much against Battleships.

You are right. I cant speak about deep balance but firing continiously 3 battleship turrets from the current bret dessi is fine. Ofcourse the ability to fire Mortars, Missles and battle razors will be Deleted but at least the real purpose of existence of that ship will be restored.
Right now all battlecruisers in Sirius are clarified as super heavy cruisers, while LSC and obviously the bretonia destroyer are light battlecruisers with no armor upgrades or energy generators. They are like the first stage before building a heavy battlecruiser resulting in the building of a battleship.
' Wrote:But wouldn't Bretonia then need a new cruiser/destroyer?
Bretonia have everything necessary. Strong gunboat, anti capital artillery platform(if updated) and an excellent medium bs. No need for new caps for now. At least that change could indeed make the dessi stronger against battleships but weak against other targets and with no disco mortar/razor/missle capabilities .. I think it would be fair and real balance.
