Honestly, the older you get, the more you're figure out that as a guy, birthdays from family members (with the exception of your wife and/or your own kids) really don't mean squat.
I get a birthday card from my sister every year simply because she's a girl - I haven't heard (or spoken) with my brother in about 14 years. My nieces and nephews don't sent me anything except the facebook birthday card, and rather obviously my parents can't send me anything (since they've been dead for years).
Highlight is being able to go out with my wife and then have a meal with the kids and grandkids - and really, that's it.

I'd be floored if my family clan remember my birthday. Can't say I ever do much for my birthday though so it's just water under the bridge. We're all stuck with each other whether we like it or not so I don't argue over the little things with them.
