When I've been exploring in my Camera, I've noticed that a lot of systems have no NPC's around.
Going from New York to Yukon, I only see NPCs three times, and one of them was a large fight near Fort Severn.
It just seems bit odd to me that these areas feel so depopulated, it was quite odd to travel these supposedly bandit infested systems without encountering any ships.
Anyone know if this was intended? (note: I am playing on the main multiplayer server)
Aye as Ingenious said. That's why it's best to cap patrol hunting when low server activity and best to go scanning or use barges when there is a high server count. As a rough estimate, you'll usually see few if any NPCs when there are over 150 players on server, if the count is below that NPCs will start to appear.
Interesting, so it would probably be best to take those obscure trade routes then if there are a lot of people on the server I guess.
Does this apply to areas like Leeds too, where Gallia and Bretonia both have a large military presence? I dont want to go into active war zones lightly!
