I think it would be a good idea to record names of the disco systems via a speech synth and add them so that when hailing NPCs, they can say "i'm heading to the Pennsylvania system." or "We're en route from the Alabama system", Instead of "I'm heading to-", which is kinda annoying.
i've got some pretty nice speech synthesizers on my pc, attached are some samples of various voices saying "I'm heading to the [insert new disco system here] system"
So do you guys think this will work? And if they will, I can help, using the speech synth software, to record the names of more systems. and the software does a good job of pronouncing at different tones as well.
I mean, having a speech synth record new system names beats the crap outta crossfire's terrible and noisy voice recordings, so what do you guys think?
p.s. the raw wav files were too large for attachments, but i can supply them if you guys decide to let me contribute.
also, rename the file to .zip then extract. i swear the only thing in the archive are aac audio files
No atmosphere? GTFO.

We've been wanting to do something like this, yes, problem is that you'd likely need to redo -all- of the systems, bases, and commodities, as well as several common voice messages for several voice sets. That comes to literally a few hundred voice samples, each with their own hash which must be unique.
In short, it's possible but a huge project. If you want to undertake it, get with me in PM.

Daron: It's definately possible. Just a crapload of work. The audio files are extractable/editable, just use an UTF editor on the voice sets (UTF files in /DATA/Audio). The internal entries in those files are hashes of the gcs_refer_ entries, along with a few default ones. Combined with the voices*.ini config files in the same folder it determines how the voice is handled ingame.

You mean, you modified only your own client and it kicked you for a bad install? Yea, that happens if you try the GC server with a modified client. I think what Ilce was referring to, was modifying the standard soundset for Disco - IE making it part of the mod.

I have no idea what you're talking about. IC agents in Gallia? Interspace has no NPC presence whatsoever in Gallia. This game is from 2003, I've got no idea what the "Krass" engine is (but assume you mean the graphics engine FL uses) and I have no idea who "the Guru" is.
I just don't see why you're saying that something is impossible to do just because you yourself have failed to be able to do it. I -have- modified the soundfile sets. Minor modifications to prevent some FLSPew errors from occurring - so I do know what I'm talking about Daron. The project suggested here will be much larger then that, in the order of some 400 to 600 sound files per voice set. But that does not make it impossible to do, just time consuming.
