I have a problem running freelancer in 1600x900 resolution. Before my Os crashed, i remember that I did some tweaking and my game was running just fine. My screens were all scaled correctly every time i launched the game.
I have just completed a fresh instal of 4.86 and unziped the latest update into the Freelancer directory. Every time I start the game my screen is messed up. When I get to screen, where you select your characters, the panels overlap. When game loads my top controls (the launch, bar, etc) are above the screen and I can' see them. After I launch and land everything is fine.
My hud text is also messed up, the weapon names and numbers are overlapping and hard to read.
I did some research and copied the hudshift.ini into the INTERFACE directory but the problem still exist.
When I add -dx into the command line of freelancer.exe my game does not run smooth,as if my video card is slow.
Please help me to overcome this problem.

I run in 1600x900 on my computer monitor, and I only use -dx.
Not sure why you're having a problem, may be a video card thing.
You could always try using Greywolf's old tutorial on widescreen, if it still works.

Now in the same folder open rich_fonts in to notepad and delete and paste the following.

there is now more guides for widescreen and they are quite small
Thank you all. I am not sure what was wrong, maybe i had another app running in the BG. I did that long hack with fonts, etc, added -dx and everything is sweet. Although, the fonts were too small for me and the map was all messed, but everything is fixed now.
