Hi All
I think this might work but I the barge would have to be much, much longer and slimmer (2-3x) and then getting away from jumping using JD's would make everybody happy.... However I suggest that the shield deactivates when it enters the tradelane and has to recharge again and Cruise speed be increased to no more than 199 (none of this 350 lark).....this would make it fairer....
Just an opinion where option one would work very well and would take a lot of pressure off our poor Canon who has no doubt got a splitting heachace right now....HaHa.
Not shur if this would be of help but why not have it so that player bases can be equipped with something that would enable ships nearby to jump. Like Have the carriar be able to jump on its own. but if its near a player base with said equipment. the base would amplify the effects of the jump drive to allow for a field effect to jump multiple people.

I disagree, they are still a nice rp tool. So, option one is my vote! And buff the barge so it can work on it's own without jumping! Make it fly at normal speeds, perhaps make it a tad smaller?
If people that own a barge use it correctly then I agree it can be a good community RP centrepoint. I would hope that barges RP ship monitoring rules should be stronger than any other ship around...
I would dislike to see this nice feature gone due to this jump drive issue.... Their is so much more to Barge and just trading.... (oh and by the way I dont own a barge in case those reading this are wondering).
Maybe an added feature might be to make Barges asteroid mining capable (much like the permanently stationary asteroid miners... this might add another RP feature to the community in each system...

Jumping should be for escape and military purposes,
Inb4 "Jumping for escape is too OP, let's use it for jumping into the battlefield only, instead!" posts.
People seem extremely unhappy when they can't get blue message on the capital ship with a horde of snubs, when previously they had 0 chance to fail.
I guess the only reason that didnt already happen is because it takes quite some time and effort to get a jumper and maintain coordinate network, thus it's not a wide-spread tactic. Yet.
I would argue that option 1 is the most comfortable to all of us, it will not restrict jumpings of anykind but the barge.
Jump drives are meant to jump stuff, im sure thats what you had in mind when you created it, this way cargo ships will still be able to jump, the only difference is that it will require RP, not the phoney rp of a jumping barge.
This will also open the possibility of making the barge public again, I for one thing would like to have one because its a good ship to run around and do some rp and yes dare i say, even trade for my pobs.
Jumping 3/4 whales is faster than jumping a barge, too bad people dont get that, perhaps limiting the barge will ( oh yes it will ).
For once I'd like to see a change that will not reflect or affect others, atleast in a serious way, hopefully option 1 will be the choice.
