A huge amount of work for admins.
deputy whitelist-adims, ie. those who didn't make the proper adim team but still can be trusted to help the server

Maybe you don't even need to register to get whitelisted. Maybe we could implement some sort of anti-doj identity verification. after all, if a whitelisted mac and ip breaks rules spawns a killer asteroid, then we simply un-whitelist that one mac and ip

as for newbies, well probably have to inconvenient them by telling them to go on the forums for a whitelist, eg. you can log in and create chars but you can't undock without whitelist. once you create char, obviously you recieve a message saying "whitelist".
besides whitelist will be better for newbs as well- today i made a new char, loaded it up with stuff i plan on selling, then BOOM got destroyed by a hacker.

precisely why a whitelist instead of blacklist. you can make a new ip and mac address, but it will be a bit harder finding and spoofing an existing mac and ip that is unbanned
A newbie downloaded Disco from ModDB, after several days playing with single player, go multi. Can't undock, see a tons of msg about forum. Go to forum and pay 2 days for waiting admin accept his account?
Many people use dynamic IPs, and they don't know what IP ranges of their ISP, register everytime go online?
Or how about we simply stick to the formula, that has gotten us through for 6 years now? Are we dead yet? No? Good, keep it that way.

PSA: If you have been having stutter/FPS lag on Disco where it does not run as smoothly as other games, please look at the fix here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...pid2306502

sure I haven't been here for 6 years, but I am under the impression that the "formula" has never been static, and it shouldn't be. people change, environment changes, you stay the same you get wiped out *darwin
if you really don't understand the importance of change, then go ask the homeless.
or, you know, improve anticheat/antihack.
or send a seal team to doj's house and kidnap his grandma
or just let hackers continue to run rampant if that's your so-called formula.
they're obviously so phased by admin bans that they're becoming more and more discouraged /sarcasm
all comes down to which solution is the most efficient.

The easiest way to implement a white list is at the firewall level but from there you got some problems:
1. if the ip/mac trying to connect to the server is not in the white list it won`t be able to connect to the server (the connection will be ignored/dropped)
2. since the user cannot connect to the server he can`t access the discovery server and the forum if they are hosted on the same server.
3. the forum is protected by cloudflare, lets say you can white list all the incoming conexions from cloudflare ips and that way people will be able to see the forum but still they won`t be able to connect to the server
4. not being able to connect to the server they might beleive the server is down or it has problems so from there they might give up trying to access this server
5. white listing ips/mac adress takes time
6. white listing ips is a bad ideea since some people have dynamic ips
7. white listing mac adresses sounds better but for some users which are kids might be a problem finding out their mac adress
