Today, I decided to play my smuggler. I decided to run one of the more unusual runs I enjoy, Artifacts --> New Berlin, Diamonds --> Yanagi, and Engine Components --> Tripoli. Well, to make a short story shorter the [RM] caught me, and generously spared my life (since last I heard they could've adhered to the KOS policy...) for a fine of 8 million.
At this point, I figured I would find new trade routes, and headed to the Tau's. To make another short story shorter, I found myself in Leeds eying Beryllium. I also found that Optronics had a high price in Leeds. I then questioned the role of a smuggler. Everyone of my characters has been based in Kusari (Except BlackFalcon, he was Corsair for a bit), all of them Kusari born. Might a smuggler be something more noble? I am sure the Bretonians would look down on my transactions with Kusari, especially if I was taking their precious metals back to Kusari in order to make engine components for their war-vessels. So, would that not be the role of a smuggler? Something a bit more noble with a greater cause than just piracy?
Or am I to be yet another trader?
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
Hmmm. Now im sure that most people would consider it smuggling for me to take any good at all in and out of malta...
For the people on Malta i am simply a man who brings them what they need and takes away what they have a surplus of.
Without people like me The outcast would fall into economic crysis and end up starving... To them I'm surely a good man. To the people who's lives I ruin by getting them hooked on cardi I'm a little more morally dubious.
It all depends on you point of veiw as to what is smuggling or what is not...
(I can't remember who it was who had the classic typo smuggling/snugglng but it made me crack up)
Interesting question. The Grau family would be considered by many as smugglers. We transport things to secretly aid in the overthrow of one particular faction. Being Junkers we do not have the military to overwhelm them so we undermine them. We transport weapons to their enemies, and secretly support anyone against them, we lie to earn their trust, and we take from them what we can...and they have no idea. If they ever caught us we be in big trouble. (which is why I am not stating the faction here...and I bet everyone who reads this is going to look at us differently now, wondering which faction we are truly against:unsure:Good luck in your search:D ).
To their enemies we are considered good people, but if they ever found out we would be considered pirates and scum. Sometimes cargos may be legal but who they go to may be considered illegal. Lets say I took food to the corsairs. Bretonia may say that is smuggling, but what would Corsairs think of me? Or lets say we hate the Bundschu and we bring military vehicles and weapons to the bs above that big blue planet in Frankfurt(I cant spell the name). The Bundschu would consider that smuggling and worthy of death.
Just because someone is a smuggler doesn't mean they are carrying drugs all the time. It is all in how you view someone and how they view themselves that determines what they truly are.
Here is a real-life example. I am working to be a cop. To other police officers that is noble and they like me for it, but some people on the street will hate me for it.
Or lets say a gang that believes in brotherly love for each other just wants people to call family because they have none. To police the gangbanger walking down the street is a criminal and should be in jail. To the gang that person may be someone that cares and loves them enough to call them brother, and is always there for them.
This will put it simply - You can be doing right in everything, but someone will always say you are doing wrong.

After reading this, I might have an interesting job for you eventually... muahahahahahaha...
maybe kusari police/navy should make some trade rule like in bretonia if the police them see u tradeing deuterium, they ask u to sell if on the close base and they are doing what ever they can to stop u from taking it to honshu.... then deuterium is smugling good right now...

Isn't deuterium used in ship engines or construction or some such?
If that's the case, why would they be seeking to consider that smuggling? If anything, they'd probably be demanding to escort you into Honshu to ensure that their war effort is assisted.

A person called a smuggler in one system may be called a humanitarian in another.
I suppose it all has to boil down to the 'self-view' of the character.
Well, I was really wondering what everyone else thought...I consider myself a smuggler for Kusari, but since the ID states that Smugglers ally with unlawfuls, I was curious about how that would play out if I don't land on an unlawful base for quite a while....

Deuterium is illegal? I didn't know that.....But, then again, I don't really ever deal in deutrerium....

Deut is only illegal to ship in Bretonia and then only if it is destined for Kusari I believe.
Also I think you have stumbled across a flaw in the ID system. It is too prescriptive in some cases... and it is therefore up to you whether you want to be bound by the card or the greater RP.
I'd stick to the latter if I were you... the ID is a very strong guide and it is sanctionable to go against it... but nevertheless I'd go with consistant RP everytime. (Mainly because the admin are great RPs in their own right and as long as you've thought about it they will forgive slight breaches in the card).

Hmm, I was leaning towards keeping it for RP purposes...but since the run seems to have gained much popularity as of today I might just scrap my purposes in the run altogether.....There must be twenty-five people on it at this time....Looks like my FA chars will see some more action after all :D.
I do think the smuggler ID should be changed to something more like "Smuggler ID owner is allowed to transport goods prohibited by the state or transport goods to enemies of the state." Of course, that is just me...
