Who even cares for the explanation if something worked?
Why break it?
Finally, a money sink was found for these billions people carry around.
It had a decent advantage (perhaps 20k range would have been enough) but was not essential to have.
Some transports got it.
Pirates equipped it.
Interceptors and scouts equipped it. A lot of people equipped it because they liked to get one.
If you want to have the perfect equipment, you have to pay +250 mils.
Despite that price, the scanner became interesting and people invested their money.
All of these are positive developments.
So... now... please someone tell me: "Where is the problem?", except "It was never meant to be mounted on anything but a BS because the name of it says so", which... seriously... is no problem that should have any weight in my opinion.
I warned you your toys would be broken, but you didn't listen to me.
It's your own faults for spending all of your money on them and expecting it to last.
Fighters not having them is perfectly fine. If you guys want a mini BS Scanner, get a Discovery Scanner. Otherwise, suck it up. We've had 14k range since the beginning of the mod (Or even shorter ranged since then). BS Scanners only could see solars and holes at a longer distance than others (showing up on the navmap sooner). This battleship scanner existed as such for what, a few months, and you're all crying over it? If it was this way for the last five years (it hasn't been) maybe you'd have arguement.
Instead you're acting like a bunch of entitled children.
You want to put whatever you want on your ship?
Play on the PvP servers that exist.
This is a Roleplay server, and, as much as you clowns don't like it, realism tends to gradually be mixed in with roleplay.

I know that. What I'm saying is dont regulate the combinations, and just apply power drain to the scanner module only.
Hell it might even work already. power_usage may be supported in [scanner] defintion already (it is used for engine and weapons), or constant_power_draw maybe (from shields). If not you can set a baseline draw for the modules that match all ships.
