Oh, you're quite right. Still, it's my opinion they're (POB's) ONE of the causes that led to a lot of people I've known quit.
I have several reasons:
- to learn how PoBs work, and how to build, set up and maintain them
- to use it as an equipment/commodity transfer point for various goods
- to use as an ore transfer point when no miners/haulers are around
- special equipment factory
- fuel depot
- role play
- home base for a group of players
So far, these reasons popped in, might add to the list later.

I agree on this, bases can be enjoyable for most people, especially if you have a good group of people to work with on them and maintain them, and i disagree with Tyler. main reason people leave disco over POBs are all the lulwats who want to do nothing more than come up with any reason what so ever to destroy someone's work. Just my opinion but seems they are many out there who come in this for nothing more than to be the most hated or cause people problems, especially with POBs. nothing can be done about that, just the way the world works, good people out there and people who just want to make others miserable seems to be what they enjoy the most. RL and in online games you have the good and the bad.
I experimented with PoB's earlier in 4.86 but since then I preffer to destroy base than let them live... I would support my faction's/allied base (defending, supplying out of boredom), through I will never take actual responsibility for it.
Would say cloaks are the only good thing coming from them.
Mostly built our one due to the fact that there is no multiboxing allowed here and we needed a transfer depot for ore and trade. Rules around not having bases in ore fields make little sense - if someone wants to take that risk, it should be their risk to take, as it is in no way a cheap one. Heaven forbid you might actually need to do some roleplaying to be allowed docking rights to mine a claimed field. It also helps morale to have a group project that people can see continuously improving.
already tryed to have one, 2 months of work but it was destroyed by the liberty governement for this simple reason (decalage horaire) 6 hours. without this bad memory, it's for a scientist team who try some new equipements(invisibility, armor, gun range etc.....)

You forgot JumpDrives, Hyperspace Scanners, and DMs
No, I did not. Docking modules should come in standard and jump drives are overrated and unable to work on battleships unless you strip armor off - defeating any purpose other than jump trade.
Cloaks. Rest should be within reach to any person, with the exception of jump drives - that are useless ( as in, useless to a good purpose. A dedicated ship that can do that is a better way of maximizing the resource ).
And also, because it looks better if an individual can actually have control over something which does not require posting or using none-rp methods.
