Due to this game's really awful autosave system, I'm having trouble enjoying it. The lack of manual saves means that if you missed a bit of the plot because you got distracted rl/didn't hear it becomes of gunfire or explosions/you didn't hear what one actor was saying because another actor was speaking at the same time... you're screwed. Especially if this happens right before an autosave.
The autosaves are so few and far between that if you do have to load one, you may have to re-do 20, 30, 40 minutes of content.
I'm curious, though. How does it work when you 'replay a chapter' from the main menu?
Let's say, for example (using arbitrary numbers), on my first playthrough I go through level 4 and full-complete it. I get all of the infusions, all of the gear, all of the voxophones, loot all containers, do all side-quests. I complete the level and unlock it for re-play, and it makes an autosave on level 5.
Then subsequently, I go back and replay level 4 (replacing my autosave from before), but this time I blow through it as quickly as possible, to re-hear all of the story bits. I don't bother going out of my way to loot or find anything. I complete the level again. Do I then start level 5 with the stuff I had from the first time I went through level 4, or the (lack of) stuff I had from the second time?
Just make sure to not autosave on your second run. If it'll autosave anyways, your old save should get overwritten.
I'd watch a let's play on youtube if I had missed any story content. I didn't though, since the game was fairly easy, even on the hardest difficulty and I always focused on the talk instead of the gunfire.
