It seems to me that almost EVERY new faction we gather lasts AT MOST a few months, then dissapears off the face of the earth! What is up with that!?
For example, the DVL, in any number besides ONE that I saw, lasted a WEEK. After that, Pfft! Nothing! Zero! Nada! Even Josh has seemed to become scarse!
Like I said, ridiculous.

Maybe we should put a limit to faction creation?
It seems that everybody wants to make his / her own faction now a days. Every noob, or player who get good at fighting, wants to create a afction. And as kane said, most of those factions dont last a month.
We should add some rules to limit faction creation. If not, we will end up with 20 factions in the server with only 4-5 of those being really active.
Like, say, pay 999mill to admins to allow faction ceration. And 200-400mill more to get a home system. That way, people would have to work like hell to create a faction and maybe they will consider joining an existing faction instead of creating a new one.
(If you find any mistake in my English, please let me know via a PM)
(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )
Perhaps increasing the level you have to be at to make the faction too?
currently you have to be level 40 to make a faction, maybe it should be 65+. That way regardless of what ship they have they'll still have several millions to use.

999mill is a bit much maby 500mill and I like the point about having to pay to get your system.
I've been mildly miffed by one-shot weapons since their implementation, oh so long ago. I remember the days when fights were a matter of who could aim better, rather than who could aim a single shot. - Virus
Korrd ... Fine way of thinking about Faction creation. Now just a working set of prices
to get it into operation. You are right, this would make people think long and hard
before starting something for themselves with no longevity in mind.
Also perhaps a small levy on existing factions per month to make sure that their
members stay around and active and earning for their groups.
Maybe then we wouldn't end up with five pages of name changes for Igiss to have to
do at once.
I aplogise for the demise of the [TC] and the name changing that brought about but
I felt that it had run its course anyway, and no one was interested anymore.
Hopefully this would stop anything like that happening again.

Think this was suggested at one time and rejected due to bookkeeping issues.
However, I defintitely think having a faction creation fee is a good idea and having the fee very large forces the faction to have some active members to start with. 500mil for creation, another 500mil or 250mil for owning a system. Cash goes to admins so they can play without needing to spend their already limited time trading. Could also be used for RP events.

Cant i get it? :)
BTW great idea. The factions that just apear then disapear over night is anoying... The system owning charge is an even better idea.
I amended server rules. So far I don't see any reason for paying for creating factions, as many player unions that might be considered factions are loose and don't have home systems. As for home system, I set a 300 million price for all new factions that appear. That's all required for now in my opinion.
Rule about 3 active members minimum is still active. Are you listening DVL?

Ya, I think I see Igiss point here. Nothing should stop players from getting together and forming a group/faction/whatever. Think of it this way, three people come on the server calling themselves "The Rogues", we can't really force them to pay to stay as a group. We can maybe have them pay to have the factions name copyrighted or registered but not sure if we want that. Paying for a home system is a bit different and I guess could be viewed as announcing that the faction intends to be here longer than a week.
