Freighters, all of them, between 1000 and 1200 cargo space.

Small transports (those that no one ever flies) around 2500 cargo space.

Until now, freighters are used for combat more than carrying "freight".
The solution is of course giving them a capability to perform better at their original task.

How about making some more places only accessible to freighters like Planet Leeds? That should increase the use of freighters. Like make Planets only accessible to Freighters, which means a transport who wants to sell goods in a planet must have a freighter to help him/her out.

Yes. +1. Agreed.
Why? Because Freighters are ships that are fun to fly, unlike transports. And if you're a good Freighter pilot, you can avoid being pirated. Freighters have a - way - higher chance of survival against any types of pirates.

I remember that I was whining about that Freelancers are not having bigger cargo ships. But now I know it encourages people to either join bigger factions or to join into pack other players within freelance companies.

What a gravedigger.

Whatever, this will be a welcome change. Right now freighters are simply things you use to get money for a transport, or to use as a big fat fighter.
