Quote:Key words being "can defend ships". Can you point me to a single ID that isn't military, police or intelligence that includes allied bases, and not just ships?
Somewhere back (maybe even in 4.86) I believe it was stated that POBs could be considered like players (aka ships) in terms of defense/attack rules (before we had attack declarations, even), so yes...defending a player base would be the same as defending a player ship.
Well the uncertainty of that was the very reason attack declarations were implemented in the first place.
If that were true, any corporate ship could defend literally any other corporate or lawful base anywhere, thanks to the "can attack any ship in self-defense, to protect an allied or neutral lawful ship, or in defense of a base of the same affiliation both within and outside of their Zone of Influence

Name of Player Owned Base: Name
Link to RP showing intent to defend: <Link>
And that is going to take a while and in that time the base is gone B|
and gg.
That's why you're supposed to do it before an attack occurs. You establish ties between the owners of the base and yourself / your faction so that you can defend it in case of an attack.

So your saying make RP specifically for defense?
Just sounds like more work. I rather just link the links I have for RP in general with other factions i am allied with.

Doesn't matter, really. The main point is to provide a link to roleplay that justifies your or your faction's intent to defend a base. Whether a thread is made specifically for this purpose or it's a part of another, related thread shouldn't make a difference.
Nor is it really the point of the thread - the template is just an example. The main issue I'm addressing is an imbalance due to the existence of an attack declaration thread that gives attack privileges, without an according defense declaration thread that gives defense privileges.
Whats the point of this thread anyway?
I see the point of the attack one, but the defense one... what does it accomplish exactly? Just placing in one stop who is allowed to fight?

You post in there so you can defend a base without getting your ships deleted.
Helps clear up confusion, saves time and effort, and makes the world better-ish.

The point is to allow ships to defend a base in situations their ID would not normally allow them to by providing roleplay to back it up, such as a freelancer group being hired to defend a base.
