Uncle Finn here, for another announcement regarding ID's, or more specifically bringing back one - the Researcher ID.
That's right, we're bringing back the Researcher ID, this time with some nice changes. The biggest change you will find with this though is that it will be an SRP-only ID. The reason, as you will see below, is that we want this to be a true RP ID, versus another OP, powertrading ID that could easily happen with its use.
The Researcher ID Wrote:Pilot carrying this quasi-lawful ID is a Researcher, who:
* Can attack any ship in self-defense or to protect an allied ship or base
* Cannot escort or fulfill bounty contracts.
* Cannot pirate or demand credits.
* Cannot participate in unlawful actions except as described above.
While this seems like a basic ID with no real benefit, keep in mind that you can use any size transport, can go anywhere, and no rephacks (Minus Nomads and the such). Also, there is discussion about allowing the ID to be able to scan anomalies or what not, and it will give you a reward in return. Stayed tuned for what that may be, if implemented.
Happy flying, and make sure to make those deliveries of a certain green commodity...

LSF says no.
Keep in mind, the Corvo may be getting a change - Per Aerelm's previous thread about the Corvo.

then it needs to not be SRP-only, or have some sort of 'mini-SRP' type dealio where it's significantly easier to actually get your hands on one.
Why? Thing is, it's an OP ID with no rephacks that can fly anywhere. But we want this to be a non-trading ID, used exclusively for RP reasons, not OP trading. Adding the benefit of a potential reward for scanning makes it even that much more special. If you want a trading ID with near no rephacks, attempt to join IND. Also, I said it MIGHT get implemented, as that decision has still not been made.
There was discussion of making this an open ID, but we would've had to nerf it severely to prevent players from using it as a powertrading ID under the guise of 'research'. Our choice was to make it an SRP, with fewer restrictions.

Means if you want to SRP a research ID, you can. Other than that, no real change. You can still RP research factions. This just gives those groups whom are serious about being a Researcher in their RP the means to have that - a Research ID.
