Any reason why it is a cross around it?
And is there a reason why you chose the black knight and not the white knight?

Cross alludes to help others and also to knights
about colours - white one was not in the specification of order.

Yet I was asked to change cross to some other shape.

I dunno like... it looks ok but the symmetry of the cross is like... bothering the a-symmetry of the knight. you know? Or maybe the knight isnt smack in the middle and it is to the side a little. Just looks off a bit to me.
Just saying my advice though but yeah
Over-all the workmanship is good I'd say. Maybe add some kind of marble texture kinda to the black cross like the knight?

The Marbel Texture idea would be great personally, and it looks like the Knight Chess Piece is not in the center of the cross. Maybe if that changed and maybe a White Marbel "Knight" Chess piece would look good

And if you can make the white edges more marble then that can work in your favor! hell even the grey.
