Help PLEASE

Ok so I found my old Freelancer disk. I have tried to install it and it will not work it stalls at 28% installation.
My computer is a ASUS G550J. I meet all the specs to play Freelancer. I am running windows 8 or whatever the hell it is
I have tried installing it in Safe Mode and it doesent work. I have went to MSCONFIG and tried that route by closing down
stuff on startup and that does not work. To be Honest i am at a loss. This is the error code i get

Freelancer Setup encountered a disk error while writing to the file C:\Program files (x86)\Microsoft games\Freelancer
\data\audio\music\music_lw_danger.wav
Make sure your hard disk is not full and that the file is not in use.

Ok my HD is pretty much empty lol. I read somewhere that it could be that the disk is scratched and while the disk
is kinda beat up... since it COULD be that i ordered one of the Amazon monster... anyways hopefully one of yall has a possible fix for this

It sounds like your disk is scratched or something. See if you can get it resurfaced at a DVD rental place.

Ended up ordering a new disk. Its supposed to be here tomorrow! is there a compatibility patch or anything?

There is one of 2 options, and there none else

1- Your disk is ruined, Scratched or destroyed and the lens cannot read further than 28% of the files.
2- Your DVD/CD player is not working fine

To kill the 2nd possibility, then try installing anything else on any disk you have, and if it worked fine with the installation process
then it's indeed the source which is the Disk ...

PS: There are no compatibilities patches & all you need is a fresh installation of Freelancer & install over it the disovery RP mod
PS2: There is a new update coming soon for the mod - keep an eye on these forums.

Try installing it on an older OS first just to be sure. If that works, just copy the game folder to your Win8 machine and then install the update. You could also try creating an ISO with Nero or something and use that to install (should have a feature to recover the data from the disk but it takes a long time). If the dye inside the disk has been affected it's now nothing more than a coaster.

I'm amazed you found somewhere that still sells it. Me, I would have torrented the bloody thing.. you already own it, so it's not like it's piracy or anything. Oh wells, jolly good.

BTW, no compatibility patches are required that I'm aware of.
