Name taken?

I've been trying to get a friend to play this game, but when he tries to create a character it says that the name is already taken, even if it's a bunch of random letters.

I suspect there are connection problems behind this, but the way it manifests itself is very strange. Any solutions?

Happened to me once. I just tried again the next day and it worked :/

This happened to me. I re-installed everything and it fixed itself.

This happened in the past when you had a different starting location than the server, but that option was disabled in later versions (it was selectable on mod activation).

Still the solution should be the same: Reinstall the mod, keep all mod settings (on activation) default.
