The Liberty Navy Fifth Fleet Research and Development Division (Often shortened to R&D) is the developmental and scientific investigatory sector of the Fifth Fleet's operation. While not as divided as the LSF, the R&D Division provides its work to combatting outclassing of technology and investigation of extrasolar, extraterrestrial and potentially threatening sources which might do Liberty harm. Coordinating at times with other divisions, both inside and outside the fleet, R&D uses the minds it fields to develop advanced arms and defenses to keep Liberty at an edge over their opponents.
R&D primarily focuses on the development of armor to utilize against the Gallic war machine. This has also translated into developing hybrid weaponry to mount on fighters and capital ships, as well as developing new classes of warships altogether. Other sectors of development may pour on as projects are completed.

Name: Ethan Taylor Rank: Lieutenant Motivation to join this subdivision: I'm very interested in weapon systems, ship technology... everything that is connected to spacecraft. And I have plans for some ship designs. Additional to that: I build my own small fighter, but it is broken.

Lieutenant Taylor..
Hello. As the new Director of the Fleet's R&D, I get the fantastically deep honor of accepting you into the division. You should be aware that not every assignment will be related to the development of new ship designs, and some could prove dangerous to your life. Regardless, I'm certain your fascination with vessel specifics will net you well in R&D.
Name: Nicole Prower Rank: Lieutenant Motivation to join this subdivision: With everyday becoming more dangerous for us and our allies, it's imperative we remain dominant in technology, designs, and all aspects to give our forces the edge in combat. I Enjoyed tinkering with my late father's old shuttle to better protect him from pirates, I am willing, and wanting, to provide the same type of ability to our fleet.

Prower.
Something about you always did spark my interest, be it in combat or just by the things that pique your interest. I never really did understand why, but I guess it's my job to fulfill that desire, eh? Hehehe..
All bad puns aside, I'm more than happy to welcome you to the division, Lieutenant. You'll find that alongside the Fleet's usual 'R&D', we reserve some fairly interesting stuff for the truly interested, as well as the usual 'special crafts'. An attitude like yours is what we need, and I can't wait to see just how you'll contribute. Bare in mind, though, that this is a fairly taxing life you're jumping into. Take a few days to adjust and then get to work however you feel you can.
Also, come up with a really cool code name. I personally like mine, but I've seen some really cool ones that you just have to.. er.. 'commandeer'...
Name: Rachel Mikai Rank: Lieutenant Motivation to join this subdivision: I want to support the fleet by developing new ideas to make the lives of our brave soldiers just a little saver. I`d also like to work on some personal ideas that I would like to work on, as well as introducing them to the other officers once they are in a reasonable state.
Good to see your application here. Naturally your efforts and self-set missions will be reviewed and discussed. I think you already know: You are accepted.
Grab a "Grizzly", paint your new name "Ash" on it and come to Juneau. Leave space for a future cloaking device. Meet me in bay 2, I'll show you our part of the station.
Name: Gareth Dayton Rank: Ensign Motivation to join this subdivision: After I joined the 5th Fleet I found out that this organisation isn't just fighting others.
It is also researching for new technologies every time. I'm really interested in defense systems and core technologies. I started to read some notes of
shield technologies and the capital ship's power systems. This stuff is really interesting. This is my reason to join the unit. I want to learn more and also help my fleet as I can.
Always good to see the young pilots seeing more work within a fleet beside shooting bad guys. Trust me, your interest in shields and core tech will be satisfied. You are accepted.
Grab a "Grizzly", paint your new name "Artemis" on it and come to Juneau. Leave space for a future cloaking device. Go into room 4E29 and read the guide.
