Hello. If you were wondering what Lyth posted that was deleted in this here sanction thread, here it is.
Now it's funny because I was just reading Marburg's thread about swear filters. I won't get into that too much but it is related.
We -or rather the staff- have degraded to a point where the most minor imaginable animosity, inrp or out of it, joking about said animosity, and even responses to being accused of such are being censored or punished.
Now if you know me you know I've always been against unimaginably strict swearing rules as we know them here - or rather, as we knew them.
Because what's been happening lately is far beyond anything relating to swearing or inappropriate language. We're past that barrier and have entered the territory of totally arbitrary, rampant suppression of normal conversational speech.
I'm genuinely struggling to find ways to describe this absurd lack of perspective.
Where do you think you are? Who are you even talking to? In what possible situation in human interaction would being called a moron result in anything other than a shrug?
Has this draconian crackdown on perceived or even real insults resulted in a more healthy community?
All it's done is enable people so petty and insecure that they actually feel the need to report "insults" so minor they wouldn't get a ten year old in trouble to feel validated. It's created an environment completely removed from any shade of reality but it hasn't made anybody better for it.
If you can name any community, forum or game, that deals with what can only be described as common speech this way that isn't aimed specifically at preteen children, please share.
tl;dr: It is YOU, the people who think this sort of thing is sanctionable (and I'm not talking about Finn specifically) who are the morons here. Edit: In fact I would call you the cäncer of disco but of course cäncer is swearfiltered. Perfect.
It just upsets me greatly every time I see a revenge sanction get processed. Admins are meant to safeguard the health of the community, not worsen it by allowing weak-willed people to lash out at others via systemic process that can hide the true intentions of the reporter.
Every revenge sanction that's process just undermines not only what the admins work and stand for, but what the community desires to be.

Calling someone a moron can be pretty offensive - and is actually - you know - verbally assaulting them..
Now. If this was used in roleplay, or used in general without targetting anyone - fine. But this was directly pointed at someone, which can trigger a 'flamewar' or whatever. Which is what people need to avoid nowadays.
Man, less than two days and already people are freaking out at me. Woo!
Ok ok, listen. I agree - the swear filter has gotten too strict, but that's a discussion that the Admins will have to vote on and such. Regardless of the swear filter allowing more words in or not, doesn't change the fact that personal attacks, regardless of the word, shouldn't be tolerated in ooRP on the forums or ingame. If it's a jest between friends, sure. Whatever. But to someone you don't know and calling them a moron twice for flying a ship in Conn? No, I don't think that's ok, no matter how little the word. It's the fact it was a personal attack.
If you walk into a store and order a drink, and as soon as you do someone comes up to you and goes "you're a moron for buying that!", is that ok? I get you could just let it roll off your shoulders. I get that some people would not take offense. But at the same time, is something like that productive? is it positive? Does it do ANYTHING for Disco other than just be mean to someone else? No it doesn't. That's the point. Someone did get offended, even if you or I or anyone else thinks that it's silly to get that easily offended. But, regardless, someone did and reported it.
Did we ban the Core guy? No. Did we remove all his stuff/money that was more than 50mil? No. We took off 6mil in credits, some guns and a AU8 armor. Not that bad. So the same argument could be applied. People are getting all heated for something trivial as some guns and 6mil taken away - all to reinforce that, no matter what, personal attacks aren't ok to do here.
Disco is a small community and it's not getting bigger. With hundreds of other games to play, people come here because they enjoy it. The minute you stop enjoying something, you leave. Yes, I get people will say "Well we don't want those people here then". But really, Disco isn't going to last forever. So with the limited time we have left with this small mod, I for one would rather keep it welcoming to people and not as toxic as say League of Legends (Huehuehue). I hear of people all the time say they don't play LoL because of how toxic it is. I don't blame them. but LoL has MILLIONS of players. We have MAYBE hundreds, and that's being generous. So if someone makes a personal attack on someone, and isn't being at all positive or constructive or offering anything to Disco/the community other than insulting someone for a ship they flew in Conn? Yeah i'm going to go "dude, not cool. You lost some guns as a reminder to just be nice and not an ass".
If people don't agree with me, fine. Your opinion. But whether you agree with me or not, I want to play here as long as Disco is around. I want to RP with some pretty awesome folks. I want to log in and have fun. I don't think that's too much to ask, is it?

Maybe if you're twelve you'd find it offensive. Calling it verbal assault is blowing it massively out of proportion. I'm b/w mixed race. I know what verbal assault is, I've unfortunately dealt with it in my life. A lot of 'privlleged' people here won't know what that's like.
Calling someone a moron is hardly that. Sure, if this is Club Penguin, feed Klen to the lions. But it's not. This is a community with on average people around 16 or so. And it's undeniable that there were malicious motivations behind that sanction, given what the evidence was.

If I buy a drink from a store and someone calls me a moron, I'm not going to get the police involved or take them to court - unless I want to be laughed at.
I'm gonna agree with Drrobe. The person that was flying that Core| was clearly offensive to that guy. I don't get it... why would you even bother telling someone that he is a moron for flying that ship... like, c'mon.
