Research on the potential for medicinal compounds isolated from native Sirian xenomicrobes, or "alien organisms", has been hampered by the difficulty of culturing many of these organisms within a laboratory environment. Despite their widespread use by the terraforming industry, the transportation and storage of the majority of xenomicrobial species has never been properly addressed.
Currently the most significant medical advance gained from the study of xenomicrobes is the species used in the production of xenobiotic filters by Planetform Incorporated. Considering the wealth of xenomicrobial species present in the Sirius sector, the potential for treatment of non-Sirian pathogens using xenomicrobial secondary metabolites is promising.
Before the intensive investigation of the medicinal properties of these organisms can be undertaken a number of growth media suitable for the simultaneous culture of bacteria and xenomicrobe species must be produced. Due to its close proximity to abundant sources of xenomicrobiota, construction of a laboratory and growth media production should take place at Atka Research Station.
Construction and preparation for this project will need to be completed in 3 successive stages, at a total cost of $204,250,000 - $249,750,000 depending upon the specific contractor bonuses issued. Once completed, this laboratory will provide value for money as a specialist centre for safe and secure research on xenomicrobial properties.

This proposal does not anticipate any immediate return on investment, however the board is requested to take into account the potential for long-term profit that would result from the discovery of novel drugs and therapies potentially derived from this type of research.
Good day miss Burbank. Your proposal has been reviewed by the Board and they have decided to stamp it as "good to go". Our funds are open, and the employees will be informed about the project so they can start with delivering the listed materials.
Yours sincerely,
Jonathan Clark
CEO of Wisp Innovations
A rather unlucky Outcast fell into my hands today. They seem to be more and more interested in Sigma-17, it's the second one I've seen over the past week. He was going by the name of Salucci and flew a Scimitar light fighter - probably a recon scout or something for the Cross.
I've just arrived to Atka and his escape pod is still in my hold - I'm going to move him to a nice, five-star apartment as soon as this transmission is logged.
[27.04.2016 17:04:04] |+|-A.Salucci|12th: If it isn't for... *Laughs*
[27.04.2016 17:04:22] [W]-"Jera": You got lost?
[27.04.2016 17:04:33] |+|-A.Salucci|12th: Me? No, no
[27.04.2016 17:05:03] [W]-"Jera": The last Outcast who tried her luck coming to Sigma-17 died rather horribly.
[27.04.2016 17:05:33] |+|-A.Salucci|12th: I am different, trust me.
[27.04.2016 17:05:43] [W]-"Jera": No, I think you're going to meet the same fate.
[27.04.2016 17:05:55] |+|-A.Salucci|12th: You're wrong.
[27.04.2016 17:06:05] [W]-"Jera": Prove it then.
[27.04.2016 17:06:08] |+|-A.Salucci|12th: I am not going to be anywhere near that
[27.04.2016 17:06:32] Death: |+|-A.Salucci|12th was put out of action by [W]-"Jera" (Mine).
[27.04.2016 17:06:37] [W]-"Jera": Oh.
[27.04.2016 17:06:44] |+|-A.Salucci|12th: *coughs blood*
[27.04.2016 17:06:45] [W]-"Jera": And you didn't encrypt your escape pod tractor access.
[27.04.2016 17:06:56] [W]-"Jera": I think you were /really/ out of luck today.
[27.04.2016 17:07:43] [W]-"Jera": It's been a long time since we had an Outcast on Atka.
[27.04.2016 17:07:46] [W]-"Jera": I hope you enjoy your time there.
Incoming transmission
Atka Research Station, Sigma-17
Sender: Jera, Feint Recipient: Wisp Innovations Communications Centre Subject: Two battlecruisers walk into the Sigmas.
Considering the recent astral fluctuations and several new jump holes opening, closing and swapping in the Sigmas, I decided to conduct a small recon mission through our immediate surroundings to see what's changed.
I first circled the entire Sigma-17 system. The first, most troubling sight was the destruction of Kurile Docking Ring, presumably by the GMG. Those tensions are heavily endangering the peace and quiet of Sigma-17 and we will have to do everything we can to protect our corner of the system.
I also discovered that Hogosha have set up shop here, with their new installation by the name Takkinai Depot. I haven't docked there or checked anything else about it, however it might be worth sending out a message to the Hogosha regarding this project.
The final interesting sight in Sigma-17 was the jump hole to an unknown system. That system later proved to be Sigma-21, in which I met a KNF scouting party, seemingly also interested in looking over the system. A few other parties appeared later, including GMG, Auxesia, Outcasts and Wild. Ultimately nothing worth mentioning resulted from this meeting. We might be able to build upon the presence of Outcasts and infected in the Sigmas in our relations with the GMG.
One of the planets in the system piqued my attention. Called Saigon, it seemed to be habitable and possibly suitable for colonization. Considering it's a relatively new discovery, I would suggest dispatching a research team down there in search of anything useful to Cryer, before someone else gets the same idea. Feint ships can provide escort to the location.
That's all. Ultimately, I believe we should capitalise on the newly discovered systems. I also heard news of a brand new Cryer station in the Corsair space. I suppose Mr Birch has already dispatched a team to see this station and review it's usefulness to Wisp. I hope we will be able to know what exactly it is soon.
Work on the xeno-microbiology lab is proceeding on schedule, all materials for outfitting have been delivered and and we are now ony waiting on final installation of equipment before the lab is operational. The next stage of work will be the identification of suitable growth media for a range of xeno-microorganisms, and the list of required ingredients has already been published for our contractors. For further details, please check this channel.
The Takarabune Conglomerate has been an invaluable partner in this endeavour, they seem comfortable working outside of House space and I believe they have relatively close ties with Crete. I would like to recommend the Board investigates furthering our relationship with this group as a potentially important business partner.
I will report back when further significant progress has been made.
