There is something I've been wondering for a while now.
Why don't we have ballistic guns in this game?
I mean, like vulkan-like or minigun-like as this would still be effective in space and on longer distances due to the inertia.
Future and energy/plasma based guns are all good but does it mean humanity forgot the ballistic guns on earth? Wouldn't it be nice to have some heavy vulkan/miniguns on a fighter? Even if it costs ammo, it would be more energy efficient with heavy hull damage because armor piercing and awesome refire rate. Top it up with some heavy shield killer and you have a deadly weapons setup.
I'm not sure how that would work , but i think that it wouldn't be all that good as it seems it wouldn't be very balanced on my opinion. You would have to either have a terrible range and it would only be good for jousts possibly or give it a terrible accuracy. Fighters aren't suposed to take massive hull damage anyway, they are here to fight other fighters and bombers. If you want to deal hull damage get a bomber with a nova torpedo/hellfire missiles or a Capital ship i guess
Check that link i already suggested it only for capships tho. Ballistic guns never going to happen im sure about that. Who knows maybe fighters will get em
I think the idea of ammo-based fighter guns has been floated before. I guess it could be something shiny and different, but I'm sure how it would be balanced, or if it's even worth the effort.
Or at least gatling like guns. Because the purple godess is a joke as a chaingun... That's actually why I would want vulkan guns. Because of the low fire rates we have in my opinion.
It's happening for fighters, which is all I'll say without revealing too much details. Solaris in my head canon have always been ammo based weapons rather than boring energy guns, so that could be looked into at some point as well.
